Do we acctually need another midfieldplayer. IMO Tiote and Cabaye are going to be our main 2 central mid's if you are of the belief that Pard's is going to play a formation similar to this

    -----Tiote-Cabaye-----
    Obertan-Ben Afra-Jonas
    -----------Ba----------

Again this is only my opinion but if this is the way Pardew is going to play does it not make JB, in effect, a fringe player? A very highly paid, controversial squad player at that.

"But what if Tiote's suspended (very likley)/ at the African cup or Cabaye is injured?" I hear you ask, well we have 3 players to back them up (I say 3 but you could include Alan Smith and maybe even Perch) in Gosling an up and coming England player, Guthrie who one of our best players in the Fizzy pop season and Abeid who looks quality!!! Even El Capi'tan Colo has been known to play a holding midfield position.

Now this is the question I really want to ask:

If it is a case of M.A. not being willing to pay a new left back and strikers wages because lets say, coincidently, it would put us 50K a week over budget which would you rather have Joey Barton or the replacements for the two positions mentioned?

Personally i am a fan of Joeys always have been, even when he was with Citeh, always will be because i love a bit of controversy and "hard" players (e.g. Vinnie Jones, Roy Keane) but I'm not to dissappointed that he will be leaving the club in the next year as i believe we have the quality and depth in squad to CONTINUE to progress without him.

I see what you are saying but I would like to see him replaced if possible. Not necessarily with a like for like player but with someone of proven quality. It is the size of our squad in terms of quality players that I think is a bit light.

If we're looking to exactly fill our 25 man squad then for the sake of balance it may be better to sign a CB, full back or striker instead. Our midfield is pretty packed

It'll give Guthrie, Vuckic and Abeid a chance. I suppose that is an upside

We need a Premiership proven midfielder for definate now ! Someone who has good experience and can bag a fair few goals a season. Barton has made a massive mistake here ! playing infront of 20000 fans week in week out and just being another London club ! also are relegation contenders for definate, doesnt matter how good Barton is ! look at West Ham !!!

During the African Cup we're gonna end up with something like:

    Krul
    Simpson Taylor Coloccini Bridge
    Obertan Cabaye Gosling Jonas
    Ben Arfa Best

Right after Christmas as well so half of them will obviously be injured. <cheers>

Not sharing the optimism re: injuries, ever since we went up Guthrie has looked suspect.

I'd rather have Barton as a fringe player than not at all... but I agree we need a LB and striker more urgently.
