I had been having lunch yesterday with someone Asian yesterday and we got on the subject of "Benny Lava"... Anyhow later that day started thinking about how few Asians were on Western TV... Got curious about what %England was Asian and tried to think of a single English show I've watched recently that had an Asian character. Only one I could think of was Crashing with Phoebe Waller Whatshername. I also saw just how low a % of England was black (didn't realise it was such a tiny %). Blacks are well represented on TV these days. Made me wonder... If Asians have much bigger numbers than blacks why I never saw them on British TV.
you don't watch comedy shows? east is east or whatever it was called. seriously tbough... you can ask the same question about sport. even cricket has a pathetic return on players compared to where it should be.
Master of None is quite a big hit (thought it boring myself) the main character is Asian. Maybe Milk need to get rid of his Kodi Kodi Kodi box?
American stereo types. bald African American hero man. quite a few trashy shows place their token... sorry.. representative person in the role of grunt who's good at fighting. women fall into two buckets pushy and bossy as hell matriarch or not but lacks confidence and needs help.
There is a wise range of ethnicity on our tv shows, really just depends what you watch. On the other side of the coin, TV is as non-PC as it gets. The actor or actress needs to fit the role, often this discriminates on age, gender, weight, height, sexuality, ethnicity, etc.
Never heard of East is East. Watch quite a number of comedies... Perhaps the ones that make it across the Atlantic are skewed to not include Asian actors.
There is a show over here called Master of None that stars an Asian actor (I think he is from South Carolina actually, but it isn't a British show. It must be a remake. Wish they would just show the originals over here instead of remaking everything. I didn't realise it was based on a British show.
@Milking the cows have you never seen the pure genius that is Citizen Khan? a mostly Asian comedy that has been a smash hit all over Britain!
