Well I for one never advocated signing McCormack so rather than saying the usual suspects why don't you name names or even post a link to the quotes. We were in the box seat to sign Gayle for example but didn't push the boat out. He turned out to be very effective last season. As I have said many times now Marriott would possibly get the goals to turn some of these 0-0s into wins and one last stab at finishing top 6. I have no idea how much he will eventually go for but I would rate him at about 3 or 4 million , any more than that and it would probably be too much of a gamble. We at least know he is good at Lg1 level which I would suggest is a stronger league than the German 3rd division based on crowd size budgets and average squad values.
Again you're missing the point, we can't afford £3/4M so it matters not how good he is, we can't afford him. Don't join FML and Kempy in asking where has all the Premiership money gone, read the accounts, they're available online and produced by an independent auditor.
The fact that we're linked or rumoured to be interested in a player in itself draws opinions from fans, whoever the player is. However, I think Gayle would have been a popular addition, Jordan Rhodes and Afobe 'meh' signings and McCormack 'don't touch him with a bloody bargepole, gaffer' I genuinely can't recall a single voice of support on this forum for the signing of McCormack. Maybe it's your defective memory you should be concerned about?
IMO, we've 'missed the boat' re promotion this season, so let's just wait and see which of the current crop of rumours come true and that we get 2 or 3 players in to 'give the lads a hand'. As I saw mentioned earlier, two of the better signings of recent years were Holt and Vardy. I well remember how DD (or was it FML?) was clamouring that we 'should of'' signed Gayle and he scored loads f goals last season - but this season??? And that General is our best (and probably ONLY) hope for the future. Edit - I see Rusty made his first start for 'Gers against the Dons last night!!!!
Watkins wanted by Bristol City for a seven figure sum. Offer ‘knocked back’ by NCFC. As he appears to be out of favour with Farke and with many who have posted on this board, this is surprising but could be that SW wants more? Should he go then he and Wildshut will have gone to clubs aiming for promotion, but could not get a regular spot in our team.
Well, in just over 136 hours the window SLAMS shut and we can get ready for the arrival of Boro and 30 grown men chasing an 'egg-shaped ball' for a few weekends when the players DON'T argue with referees and VAR/TMO works brilliantly!!!!
Whilst Watkins remains our only option as a backup striker, he can't really be sold unless the offer is phenomenal. Never thought I'd say this, but it's possibly a shame the Naismith deal got agreed so quickly, particularly given it doesn't seem that financially favourable.
We should definitely buy that League One guy And the German It’s not like we’re teeming with strikers Every buy is a risk and they’re better risks than any striker I can see in the Champ or some PL club’s loan cast off. Don’t really get the debate to be honest
Naismith going on loan for a paltry savings is probably my sole regret about this window. I was also sad to see Jerome and Wildschut go as well, but I can understand the reasoning in both cases. With Pritchard gone, Naismith could have provided options other players don't. In all three cases, however, DF must have wanted different skill sets. Hernandez and Srbeny will provide those (we hope). We do need an out and out winger and as long as Srbeny can fill the Jerome role and score some goals as well we will have moved on and saved money as well. Leitner may have been the final factor with a skills set similar to Naismith's with the quality of a Bundesliga player. Hopefully we'll have an option to buy if it goes well.
I'd also like two strikers coming in but still think Marriott will be too expensive. Julan, the 22 year-old Le Havre striker would be my choice but Fletcher on loan would also be OK.
At the moment we have Basil and possibly the new guy from Germany as strikers. We also have Abrahams but very little is mentioned about him especially from Farke. I suspect this is all we are going to have unless Basil goes quickly and we need somebody short notice.
I'm just happy that we are getting some players in. I hope they are decent quality but who knows. I think playing against 3rd tear German sides will be easier and less physical than playing against teams like Burton and Leeds. Fingers crossed.
I saw something just before we played Chelski where he said that he wasn't ready for such a tough game. I've seen DF at some of the Under 23 games.
