DM will be a key position. We should have both Thompson and Godfrey available and Trybull can play as a holding CM.
Another youngster (17) a defender, this time from Huddersfield. So that’s three or four developing young players so far. Building for the future, but what about now? West Ham rumoured to be interested in Maddison @ £20m. As far as I can remember, we have bought in McClean and then loaned him back to Aberdeen. More rumours about Godfrey on loan at Shrewsbury - a pack of PL sides having a long look apparently. Will NCFC be tempted to sell him? Rumour has it that we are hoping to sign a winger from German League 2 and a striker from French League 2? Have I missed anybody?
Henry Wyndham@Henners86 Fletcher? Would prefer someone with a better goal scoring record but he has potential.
Good summary of the striker situation: http://www.norwich.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=518963 Ideally we could do with both Fletcher on loan and Julan on a permanent.
Thomas, though only 17, is highly rated and has gone directly into the U23 side and played against Bournemouth. With Ramsey on loan, Thomas may be the cover for Pinto now.
3rd tier German Striker from Farkes hometown anyone? http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/paderborn-striker-srbeny-in-talks-with-canaries-1-5367553
All I can tell you is that a friend of mine was in Park Farm last night and established from staff that an older Frenchman - too old to be a player - sitting in the bar was a guest of NCFC. When he left the bar he left a small document on the table which my friend picked up and later rang me for a translation in case it was relevant. Unfortunately it was just an advertising leaflet out of a French magazine. Another friend who I bumped into this morning knows more about French players than I do told me that Julan is a tall gangly player who was the subject of rave reviews a couple of years ago but has not moved on from that possibly because he needs to physically fill out a bit more. Le Havre are a decent Club who have had spells in the top division in the past.
I was quite impressed with Jones (?) when he came on for his under 23 debut on Monday and IMO, several of those who played have potential and wouldn't be surprised to see a few going out on long term loan next season to help their development Just copied is from the article - ' The 23-year-old German is the top scorer in the Dritte Liga, the third tier of German football, with nine goals in 15 league games and also has eight assists to his name. Standing at over 6ft 2ins tall, Srbeny has been crucial to Paderborn’s strong first half of the season, currently sitting top of the table with 15 wins from 21 games.'
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Marriott in the English 3rd division? Similar stats but only 1/7th the cost. Both would be a gamble, but the German seems less of a risk, particularly if we can get another striker in as well with the money left over.
If there was 'money left over', from the sales of Jacob and Pritchard, it's clearly been earmarked for behind the scenes payments such as agents fees, etc, as opposed to investment on the pitch, where it has simply disappeared into the ether. Hence trawling round the German third division looking to recruit on the cheap
Szbeny is 6'3" and has 58 goals in 128 appearances in his senior career, including 9 goals and 8 assists in 15 games this year to lead the league. Marriott has 57 in 160 in Leagues One and Two. I'll judge our spending when the window closes and we know who has come in. Zimmerman's views on players from the continent's lower leagues: http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/big-break-paid-off-for-city-defender-zimmermann-1-5366863 Perhaps they have the hunger and desire we need.
Be interesting what side of the quality line he will fall. Will he be a Trybull/Zimmermann or a Franke/Stiepermann. Hopefully, by the sounds of it, he should be coming with plenty of self confidence.
