This would make sense, on the basis that we're busily hording away midfielders - at the expense of true priorities, like a goalscorer and a back up to Pinto
When is somebody going to take Basil away permanently. £10m would do nicely and he could strut his stuff at another ground which would probably mean missing the back end of a barn from 10m/10yards.
I've wanted us to sign him for a few seasons. He could be as effective as Matt Ritchie. Unfortunately he had that horrific injury. Who knows if he's the same player after that.
The main problem is a loss of form. He was everybody's hero early in the season but then the goals dried up. It happens with strikers. We do need another striker soon, but we can hardly afford to lose the one we have.
I was sitting in the river end and some bloke was saying how we should play 2 strikers at home. We haven't even got 2!
It's almost like no one at the club counted the strikers at any time in the past 3 seasons. Just assumed we had loads! And I wouldn't put that past our club.
So f**king depressing that made me laugh. A club taking in record Premiership TV money so often in the past 5 years or so. We can only afford 1 striker. All our fellow Championship Teams have 4-5!! (just checked Burton after typing that, the Smallest, poorest club in the division that everyone thinks is "cute" coz they are so against the odds. Tiny and "poor little" Burton Albion. They have 6 first team strikers. Our club is a f*cking embarrassment!
....Only a matter of time, I still think he might go this window. He's just too good for us and the way we play and perform.
I certainly wouldn't bet against it!!! On another topic, I see the odds are that Basil will be sold in the next 9 days.
I think it's quite amusing really. People saying stuff like: "It's all part of the new structure" "We don't have the same spending power as before" "We are building for next season" "It's part of the new self funding model" We have 1 week to get in a Striker, one that looks interested. If we experience any injuries to Pinto, Maddison, Josh, Oliveira (to a lesser extent) and Tettey or Reed. We are so thin on the ground at the moment it would cause major issues. Where are the players? Who are we getting in that will help us finish the season well? The other point I would like to raise is this. If we are building for next season and you are James Maddison and you are seeing all of our players being sold, including one that was integral to the creation of goals and our best player, what would you be thinking right now? It's a funny way to build a squad. Also, it demonstrates to the fans the ambition, or lack of that the club has going forward.
No. It is some of our so called supporters who are a f*cking embarrassment. Jerome was the preferred choice up front and the supporters moaned, wanted him sold and Basil played instead. They got their wish. Now they want Basil dropped and sold but at the same time they don't want him dropped and sold because that would leave us short of numbers. Surely until the situation with Basil is sorted out the Club do not know who, what and how many replacements they need. Yes, we are short of strikers but there is 9 days of the window left and only SW and DF know who we are trying to buy or borrow. Can't we just wait and see where we are in a weeks time before we unleash the non-stop tirade of abuse against the Club. Just another couple of points. As you continually infer that the audited accounts are inaccurate and in fact we are not financially stretched but have a huge pot of gold stashed away perhaps you could enlighten us as to where the account inaccuracies are and perhaps you could just clarify where Burton with their 6 strikers are in the league. STOP PRESS - NCFC sign Lionel Messi on loan - FML moans that he is too short.
The old adage - you have lost the argument if you have to resort to personal abuse. Quite honestly though I cannot see how McLean has anything to do with any point I raised.
We sold the wrong one, should have sold Oliveira kept Jerome and spent the money on a new striker. At least Jerome has the right attitude.
