Similar to Chester at home in the Autoglass, they must’ve really underestimated the 600 in attendance that night.
I was pretty sure it was north of 600 but I might be wrong. I was there too, and amongst the 1700 vs Torkey in the league.
I wasn’t at Orient, my excuse is I was only a nipper and my dad was / is an egg chaser. My first ever away game was when Wendies beat us 5-1.
I was there too, which doesn't make me smug, just a mug! The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
That brings back memories, this game was a bit before my time but I regularly used to nip into the electrical shop to check the full time scores
Can't remember where our standing terrace support was in the ground but the side stand opposite the main stand where the players came out contained a number of City and I was in there . The game was over 30 years back but certain the seats in our stand were like long bench like seats . Also think the end we attacked in the 2 nd half had no stand ( it had been demolished ) , and behind the goal was a large solid wooden fence with advertising . Cannot remember who got the other goals , only that Stan scored a penalty and Flounders scored the winner . It's the best comeback I have witnessed by City as we looked well beaten at 4 one down with 25 minutes to go . This was also the season we were down 2 nil at home to Derby with 20 minutes left , and big Billy W scored our 3 rd and the winner in the last minute .
The away fans were in the open stand behind the goal, at the opposite end to where we were for the playoff semi. None of those stands are there anymore.
Yes, I was there. It was a real turning point in that season, Horton's first. he had got off to a reasonable start but not spectacular and we were losing 3-0 and then 4-1 in this game nd think a few questions were probably being asked about him. Suddenly when got back to 4-2 you could sense something was on though - panic in their defence was visible. Never leave before the end!
That Derby game is one of my all time favourites, seem to remember we were down to 10 men as Bobby McNeil had been sent off for constantly stealing yards at throw ins. The roar when Big Billy scored the winner I can remember now!
I was in the open stand with an Aussie mate who I was studying with at the time. It was his first ever English football match. He kept saying there weren’t enough goals compared to Aussie Rules even when we got the fifth. He spent most of the game trying to teach the City fans the words of the Richmond ‘Tigers’ theme song in between a few beers.
Yes, the City fans were on the open terrace where 4 second half goals were scored. The first goal was scored by Askew at the far end, direct from corner I think. Half time was 1-3. Their 4th was a long shot I think. As someone else alluded to, when we scored our 2nd there was a genuine belief on the terraces we'd come back. City were a great team back then and it was a shock to be losing by so many. It's a shame the tv cameras didn't pick this game up. I'd love to see it again.
