A great post and agree with it, Sturridge by many on here has become some joke but his goals to games ratio speaks for itself, does it matter if Sturridge plays like **** all game when tonight everyone else did too? I’d trust him to score over anyone when we’re playing crap, he still has the arrogance to bang something out of nothing
****ing hell lads cheers for that Have we not done you lot enough favours to expect some in return... Bet you turn up at St Marys though
Not taking away from Peps talents as a coach, as he's probably the best in the world. But it's not as tricky to break down sides when you've Xavi, Iniesta and Messi in your side. 3 of the most technically gifted players all time. He is doing brilliantly at Man City too, but again he has much better players especially in midfield than Liverpool do. Can and Wijnaldom or De Bruyne and Silva, it's a whole new level of player. I think Klopps biggest problem at Liverpool is that he's trying to play Barcelona style football, and he doesn't have Barcelona quality players, nor does he quite have the finances to pay the super fees and wages to get those players in. Yeah you have money, but your not going to pay 6 or 7 player 200k+ a week like City do. Coutinho was that sort of level and that's why he's gone. You might play nice attractive football, but the harsh reality is, unless you have the likes of Xavi Iniesta, or De Bruyne and Silva in your midfield, your always going to have trouble against sides who park the bus, as you just don't have the quality to thread the ball through the eye of the needle consistantly week in week out. I think you need something else, like a plan B for example. That game was crying out for a Drogba type player, a player who could have bullied the centre backs, and open some gaps for you to take advantage of.
The most annoying part of the game for me was mid-second half... Gomez and Robertson were offering width, Matip and VVD were passing between them with Can just in front. Where the other FIVE outfield players? Thats right, in and around the Swansea box surrounded by ten outfield Swansea players. Could have thrown a blanket over them! I'd understand that shortish if we ever crossed a ball but trying to pass our way through it?
Oh a tad dramatic after 18 unbeaten... I have a little more faith in them to just put it behind them and crack on
somewhere in between for me, am torn between hope and despair. Believe you me it is not a good place to be!!
Eaxctly. Players like Studge don't work in some systems, that's obvious. Klopp plays a formation with wingers and a subdued Firmino playing in front of the opposition defenders. Since his return from major injury Sturridge has played in the Firmino role instead of where he played with Suarez. That doesn't suit him. Aguero isn't wanted by Pep for the same reason. But he still scores loads since when Pep decides to play him, he at least plays to his strengths by changing the team for him. That isn't his preferred system, which is why Jesus is getting more and more minutes, but he doesn't just plop Aguero into a different role and be rigid in his tactics. I feel that if instead of bringing on Sturridge to play that quasi-false nine role, he threw him on alongside Salah or Mane, and dropped the other one behind them as a 10, it would work much better at breaking down stubborn teams.
I don’t think you’re far off to be honest, but also not sure we’re a million miles away. Keita signals we understand that position in midfield is key and we need top quality there, VVD, we just paid what was needed as enough was enough, the front 3 on their day are unbelievable at times. We can’t do all this in one window, that’s the difference
I've not watched enough of Keita to know if he's going to make a big difference, but it's a tough jump from being a good player in the Bundesliga to being a good player in the Premier League. Plenty of players Mkhitaryan being one, have struggled with the switch. We will see though
Yeah, Sturridge plays so much better with a partner - we have the personnel to mix things up, you can only hope a performance like this forces it as ‘found out’ springs to mind tonight
Tbf, in league terms Utd have been ****e since Fergie retired, so its back to square one, I think you'd agree that the overwhelming majority of Utd fans and their adoring press have been "giddy" with the signings in the aftermath of Fergie's retirement, you've had the new Giggs, the new Scholes, the new Cantona, the new Best and the new Robson but Utd still after all the "new" oldies can't cut the mustard. Getting "giddy" applies to Utd these days just like the rest of us, unless you want to live in denial and rely on history.
