I like the analogy. Very apt. We are a formula one car and City being macho us another sports car and Pep invited us for a straight full speed race at Silverstone. We demolished them. But most teams in the premiership are little minis and most managers invite us to race in their city centres.

True, but we saw tonight what will happen for the rest of the season. We've sold him to bank the money: without Ford there is NO creativity in that team.

If we want to maximise our chances of getting top 4 we have to keep Spurs as far away from us as possible and that means for them to lose.

I guarantee you Carvajal was smiling inside congratulating himself from the tenth minute on when our game plan became obvious. The same plan that we've had since Klopp joined the club. Every match we play against a bus-parking side leaves us scratching our heads going "but what could we do? We had 70% possession?".

Pep's Barcelona was successful because he found out quickly that possession is a defensive strategy. It is the absolutely best form of defense - you can call it defending with the ball at your feet. But it's also inefficient in an attacking sense because you cannot realistically play against 11 men in the box. So what did Pep do? Well he had Messi for one, but the rest of the team was designed to do what we did today. Pass it around the back. Pass it around their box. Never set foot in it. One mistake and you can punish them, one player breaks through the offside trap, one player makes a run and you have 5+ locations to pass from. You have Messi who can do that one play, that one spark. They'd often go up 1-0 and then pass the ball aimlessly for the rest of the match.

Klopp's Liverpool has never had that quality. We can get the possession part right. We can pass it back, never lose it. We can give up on 100 crossing opportunities to set someone else up for a better position to cross from. But that final trigger? That player actually making a run into the box? We don't have that. We don't know when to stop defending with the ball at our feet and actually get it into the box. Robertson today - Christ. At one point around 80 minutes he got the ball out to the left. The defender got slightly close to him, he immediately gave up. Passes it back to Salah (I think, could have been VVD). Ball passed back to him from the first touch. Again, gives up the chance to cross because the defender is slightly close, though he had more time this time. Passes it back. 30 seconds gone. Ball passed back to him, again from the first touch. FINALLY he decided to cross and immediately the defender blocked it. He wasted a minute trying to get someone else into a better position. Instead he could have crossed it, had it blocked, saved a minute and gotten a corner had he just done it first time.

It's the reason why I never wanted to give up on Sturridge. I know his time has passed but he's the type of player that a game like today needs. They used to call them strikers, and the reason why managers played two of them was because two strikers can play off each other to bypass two CB's. Instead, Klopp and most modern managers insist on using a single CF system where that player (for us Firmino) doesn't even play so far ahead, meaning he's marked out by two players, while our wingers have to rely on getting past their fullbacks AND midfielders. Firmino today was invisible because he was marked out. Mane and Salah slowed down the play because Firmino was invisible. Just like that, from the initial formation we've lost our three attacking players. So where was the tactical decision to change that?

Klopp needs to drop the 4-5-1 against parked buses. We don't have Messi to produce the magic moment. Our closest player to that was just sold and won't be replaced. I wouldn't mind playing this way once we are 1-0 up. But at 1-0 down, you have to change something. Be more direct. Run with the ball. Run at defenders.

This was a massive opportunity lost. Massive. A gap at this stage of the season would have been worth far more psychologically than mathematically. Now we get to listen to Klopp bang on about how he believes in his team and how we were the better side. I've had enough of the better side bullshit. The better side is the one that adapts to the game and walks away with 3 points.

Agree completely. They say it is a sign of madness to continue to do the same thing and expect a different result which is what we are seeing from Klopp.
This was in response to Danilo.

    For me...

    A) klopp had a clear tactic where our supposed midfielders go forward and stand about. First half can set deep and let out two cbs be out creators. Second half wijnaldum was moved back to do so......utterly stupid.

    B) mane had a one on one and ****ed up. He then has another glorious chanced, tried to smash ball, slipped and fails to get it on target. Salah tries to smash it when through when he could have control it. All points to lack of control.

    C) salah smashes wild shot when mane is on edge of 6 yard waiting for tap in...

And on and on. Half our side turned up expecting an easy game. Once the midfield decided they were strikers and stood blocking space we were toast. You could smell it after 15 mins

A draw would do but at least one of them will drop points. Beat hudds and we benefit.

Sadly i can't see us finishing above utd, but its key we don't give the spuds or arse a sniff of top4.

It was far too easy for the Swans. We kept passing the ball in midfield in such a slow deliberate way it was unbelievable. The play was completely predictable and we were really crying out for someone like Coutinho. The sudden unpredictable pass or the clever free kick. We have to admit that Swansea had a really easy comfortable night.

Unless Klopp gets the players going, we could miss out on top 4 if Spurs and/or Arsenal get their act together.
