Another possible striker out of our reach. Sorry Dunc. https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footba...lace-readying-7m-bid-for-marriott_316775.html
Jerome has pace, but Fletcher could be a good fit with little risk. Have to wait and see what develops.
Looks like McLean is coming, but not until the summer as he's being loaned back to Aberdeen. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport...s/aberdeen-kenny-mclean-norwich-300k-11890771
McLean signed for £150,000 and loaned back for rest of season. Can find nothing else on Hernandez coming in.
What is the point in signing a player and loaning them back when we are desperate for players here?!???! Waste of time or what?!?! Also, why pay now and give him back when we could get him for free in the summer? Our club is a proper ****show at the moment
I thought McLeans contract was up and he wasn't signing a new one?! If so, why have we paid for him are we loaning him back until his contract runs out? Or is his contract out the summer after? Another signing that does nothing for our current state.
I have read several reports about Saturdays game and all are of one voice we are very thin on the ground. With at least five players sold or on loan, we certainly need back up. Oliveira is a waste of space and one of the U23 lads should be given a chance. He doesn’t want to be at CR. To buy a lad from Aberdeen, for anything from £150k to £300k and then loan him back is absolute madness. Probably don’t want to pay his wages!! Last minute scramble for bargain basement stuff seems inevitable as rumours of players linked to us have gone very quiet.
I can only think that Aberdeen wouldn't sell without the loan-back deal. McLean would be out of contract in the summer but there's no guarantee that he'd come to us then. IMO, he's seen as a replacement for Reed when his loan is up with the added benefit that he can play on the right as well, like Howson used to do. CM is not an area where we are light at the moment, with Trybull, Reed, Tettey, Vrancic and Steipermann all able to play there. This explains it: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport...s/aberdeen-kenny-mclean-norwich-300k-11890771
DF did say that there were three possible transfers being negotiated, two for now and one for the summer. McLean would be the latter, then, with Fletcher or another striker and Hernandez or another winger the other two unless a RB is deemed more important. DF did say that attacking players are the priority though. “It is obvious that in this moment in the offensive positions we are too thin in the squad,” said Farke, after the game. Edwards, who had some back problems and wasn't available last Saturday, will have another week's training with the squad by Saturday so could be on the bench as could Cantwell again or possibly either Fonkeu or Abrahams, but we'll have to see beyond that.
The amount of money we pissed away on Naismith Wildshutt Franke etc £7m sounds like good value for Marriott
Quite right, FML. I'll reserve judgement until I see how Marriott gets on at a higher level. The first two transfers mentioned took place when we were in the PL and for £5m and £4m (according to the Pink'un), not the higher figures often quoted on here and elsewhere as the add-ons never happened. Farke is still our player, so we'll have to wait on that one.
Kenny McLean confirmed: 3.5 year deal, fee reported to be £200k will be loaned back to Aberdeen for the rest of the season http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spor...scotland-international-kenny-mclean-1-5364509
I would guess that signing McLean now would actually be cheaper than waiting until he is a free agent, when he would want a substantial signing on fee.
Signed Young lad from Spurs - Has back injury before kicking a ball Signed MClean from Aberdeen - Loaned back to club Trying to loan a striker who cannot get into Middlesbrough 's first team Sold 1 of our 2 recognised strikers and our best midfield player as well as numerous back up players. It's the 22nd of January. We better pull our fingers out of our arses.
Good to get it done. "McLean was impressed with Farke’s vision for the Canaries. “The manager’s philosophy suits me,” he said. “The way he put the club across to me was excellent, and everything sounded perfect. He seems like someone everyone wants to work for. Hopefully I can fit in nicely and be a creative player for the team.” Farke is looking forward to working with the Scottish international. “Kenny is a player who is really flexible,” he said. “He can play nearly each and every position in midfield – as a number ten, a number eight, a number six or as a winger who comes inside. He’s full of technical ability with a high passing quality and he’s able to score and assist. He’s a player we really like. At 26, he is a good age but still wants to improve. Physically, he’s in a good condition. He has many strengths and is a player we really like."
1 Edwards had a minor back problem when he arrived, but it hasn't stopped him training. DF didn't want to risk him on Saturday as we had Cantwell available. 2 We're OK in CM with 5 players available, so getting the deal done now makes sense. With Reed and Tettey due to leave at the end of the season, McLean will have the whole of the preseason to adjust. 3 Look at the quality of strikers available to Boro. A loan deal makes sense for a player they paid £6.5m for. 4 Fletcher would be a good replacement for Jerome with height and pace, the Pritchard deal was good business as we have good options at AM. It'll be good when we get more players in, but I'll judge the window by where we are when it closes.
Seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I like how he comes across. Shame we have to wait til the summer.
