I can see the Pozzos strategy here. They can find managers who perform for about half the season and then they deteriorate. So the answer is simple. Change managers every 6 months. Job done. Seriously this guy will be good I think for as long as he gets. He can obviously communicate with nearly all the squad and where he comes from he will tell any "I don't ah spoke the linga" to pull their finger out and get some lessons. And hopefully a solid defense will force teams to come at us and that will free Richarlison and the others. Not sure where that leaves Deeno or Gray though. At least mess finished with quick as you like and we move on
If it were that simple KC. A solid defence is one which has been playing together for longer than half a season. Also if you are changing managers every 6 months then you are going to find it increasingly difficult to get good ones.
The Pozzos had no serious problem with Silva until the Everton approach when Silva behaved badly. Who knows how much 'loyalty' the Pozzos would have shown towards Silva had he acted reasonably. I'm sure that also want a coach that stays more than one season. The guy had only been in the job five minutes before he was looking for something better. This was most unlike the Pozzos sacking a manager mid term, normally they reach an amicable settlement at the end of the season. I'm sure Flores activated his break clause option to return to the sunshine, who can blame him, our weather is crap. Looking back there are plenty of examples of Watford players and managers not showing any loyalty, to them it is just a job, always has been.
I think the Pozzo's (or is it just one of them ?) really did believe that MS was a long term (2 seasons minimum) appointment. However, as it now seems to be genuine that the Everton business messed things up , the outcome is not surprising. Nevertheless, I still believe that the problem is more with the injuries - or more specifically the medical dept. This was for me the biggest problem, and the club has to some extent blamed MS for a problem of their own making.
T Caring about employees is not the same thing as loyalty. Given your predilection for criticising people in astonishingly unpleasant ways, and with extreme predjudice I might add, I doubt you understand the concepts of 'caring' or loyalty.
It could well be that Flores actually wanted to return to Spain, and not just for the weather. What applies to managers can also apply to players - how many imports have we seen who shine for a few weeks because they are 'playing in the prem.' yet then go progressively downhill - and, of course, when you go progressively dowhill then the chances of injury increase. Too many players at Watford have careers which are going backwards. Could it be that the dream of playing in the Premiership recedes when they realize it is accompanied by 7 days a week life in England ?
Spot on. Yes the football is great but playing where the sun shines 300+ days a year surely is an attraction. Maybe some foreign players take a view the money is great in the UK and the working period is only for a few years then they are able to take their millions back where life is more pleasant. This is why most of us would like to see more players from the home nations such as Robbie Brady, who would give everything on a cold night in Newcastle.
Thankyou. As I have been an employee in large medium and small companies, and an employer of many years experience, particularly in small companies who cared deeply for their employees, the ignorance of your comments makes my point precisely.
I'm not just talking about the weather SH. The food, the culture, the perceived unfriendliness of the people, and a general rise in xenophobia since the Brexit vote all play a part. For players who are alone, without their family and friends, living in digs somewhere - life can be a bit bleak, all of which can be partly responsible for a lack of performance on the pitch.
From an Evertonian, I'm sorry to hear about this. If Everton are the reason for things turning sour at Watford, I'd like to apologise on behalf of Everton. I hope things come good for Watford and that Marco Silva can rebuild his career elsewhere. It seems that everything Everton touch this season turns to ****. A comment after a well balanced piece in the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/21/javi-gracia-watford-marco-silva-evrton
I'm sure these millionaires have no problem finding good food and dealing with the culture. There is also no problem with unfriendly people or xenophobia. It has been reported some have found the bright lights of London too distracting but no evidence has emerged yet. I think the lousy UK weather is a major factor.
This from the comments on the article in the Guardian ... sounds encouraging "The new guy": Well, as a Malaga supporter, I can tell you that you have just got yourselves an excellent coach (as opposed to a manager). With all the best players being sold from under him, he was forced the work with a team comprising of mostly free transfers, out of contract, on loans and a couple of prospects from the reserve team. By sheer force of good coaching and hard work we finished in the top ten twice in his two year tenure, a terrific achievement. Naturally, the owners grabbed the cash when Rubin Kazan came calling. He was cheered to the rafters for his last game at La Rosaleda. Watford, you have got yourselves a good man and terrific coach. Good luck you.
If you did actually employ people and showed no loyalty towards them that says more about you than general employers of small businesses.
http://www.hertfordshiremercury.co..../javi-gracia-reveals-watched-watfords-1100175 Conspiracy theorists will no doubt salivate over this - Gracia says that he has watched all of our games this season...
You'd have to think they have been talking to him for a while in case Silva had jumped at the end of the season or even earlier !!
