Agreed. If we got a new manager. I’m frustrated by the probability that potential signings are looking at MP2/us at the moment and thinking “nah mate, you’re okay thanks”. If we’d been more decisive at the start of the window and appointed a manager that would appeal to players, we’d be fishing in a bigger pool.
I didn't like the bit at the end of that article....where Shane says he's getting abuse on twitter even though he set up two goals against Watford. Not the time to abuse a player who is at least contributing and has scored recently. Encouragement is now needed. The point of the interview is correct anyway....we are good enough....if things got sorted out. None of our players are bad....they just perform badly together. It's that that needs sorting!
Long isn't saying that there won't be signings....just that he has confidence in the team. At least....I hope that is what he means. I feel that team just need a bit of stirring up by the introduction of new players....too easy to be comfortable and realise too late that there is a precipice.
Short version Long: I'm confident I'm good enough to be our striker, we don't need a new one! Please don 't replace me.
I'm actually fine with Long being in our starting XI. He is perfect for a system that I like to see teams play, pressing from the front. We just need someone else up there with him who we can rely on to finish chances/be there when Long wins the ball high up the pitch. The best scenario for me would be to have a 3 behind a striker of Tadic (left), Boufal (central) and Long (right) behind Gabbiadini and see how that worked. As a Hull fan said to me when we originally signed him "If Shane Long could finish he would be worth £50m". That was back when £50m actually was a **** load of money.
I would like to see any of the spineless berks slating Long on twitter do so to his face. He's only little, and seems a real nice guy to boot, but I guarantee he's absolute nails in a fight (used to be a hurler).
Pretty much. Long probably valued higher as he doesn't look like a rat. The thing I always say to the Long haters is there must be a reason that he has spent what 10 or 11 season in the PL, as a striker, as a pretty regular starter and only hit double figures for goals once. Can't think of anyone else like that. The simple answer is because he is very good at everything else. I have never been a fan of the "Defoe/Bent" type striker who just stick the ball in the back of the net but contribute **** all else. It is a main part of the reason why I didn't like having Pelle in the team (but I don't want to bring up that can of worms and set FLT off)
It is one of my favourite/funniest things about going to football, hearing some fat middle aged bloke in the crowd talking about putting an athlete in the prime of his life alone in a room with him so he could "show him a thing or 2". Unless that thing or 2 is how to eat pies or drink 10 pints in record time then I'm pretty sure the athlete would kick **** into him.
Sadly social media gives the stupid a voice. At one time they would just sound off down the pub now they can vent their opinions before they have had a chance to rationalise. In the past you'd write a letter to the editor and then half way through realise you had gone over the top.....then you'd screw it up and throw it in the bin. You had a chance to edit your thoughts. Unedited thoughts is how wars start. As Archer's said, would they go up to Long and abuse him to his face?
I see Nasri is leaving his club. Would be perfect for us in that creative role I think, one of the most under rated players to have ever played in the PL in my view, such a good player. Big question whether he is motivated at all and is a bit of a twat but worth sounding out I reckon.
