ack Rodwell has said that he is prepared to leave Sunderland but will not walk away from the last 18 months of his contract. The Black Cats offered to tear up his deal over two weeks ago in order to free up room on the wage bill. Rodwell has not featured under Chris Coleman having suffered from a hamstring injury. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Rodwell also said he would be available for selection if picked by Coleman. He insists, however, that is unfair to expect any player to walk away from a deal. He said: "I think it's unfair to ask that of a player. "I haven't put in a transfer request but I understand the club's stance and their position and, because of that, I understand it's beneficial for everyone if I move on. "But it's not the fault of any footballer if a club decides to pay you a certain amount. I have worked from seven years old to get here; to then ask someone to just throw it away, that's difficult. "I never wanted this. I joined Sunderland, a great club, to be successful, to feel at home again. "It hasn't worked out, but that's not through lack of effort. "Now, for me, it's not about money, it's about playing. If that means moving on to help the club in a situation that suited all parties, I would need no convincing. I'm a footballer, I want a football club. "Why would I just walk away and be left jobless? The transfer window has two weeks to run and I'm prepared to do anything to play — any decision will be based on the chance to play football, not money." Just been doing abit of research and since 2012 including when he played for City who he also screwed a living from he has only made 83 appearances. So thats 83 appearances in 6 years, most coming from the bench. I used to play footy that many times in a month with my mates when i was a kid ffs. His wages at City will have been similar to what were paying him, add a couple of big signing on fees from his 20m pound worth of transfer money from both clubs, hes laughing all the way to the bank.

Surely there’s a middle ground, million or 2 pay off. Yes it’s dead money but it’s still better than the lad sitting for 18 months. No club is gonna take a punt, he’s the kind big Sam would have taken and got back playing but Everton are too big a club for him to do that now. He has shown he hasn’t the stomach or fight for the battle so that rules out all of the Championship and Premier League. He could go to Scotland and rebuild, but he’s not good enough for Celtic and his salary too high for Rangers. Even as a free agent, who’s gonna give him a deal? We are stuck with him so I disagree with shunting him with the reserves.
He's on 70 grand a week for no other reason than he has a contract. And a pulse. He's going nowhere. Why should he? He knows he'll not get the same elsewhere. And he's only 26. 28 when his contract ends. This contract settles his and his kids futures. Anyone on here willing to take a massive pay cut when there's no obligation to? Right and wrong, fair / unfair, doesn't come into it. He'll be lucky to get 30 grand next time round. He's high risk and high maintenance So I don't blame the incredibly delusional lad.
