http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-42702432 Twenty-five years after the murder of Stephen Lawrence some police forces are still institutionally racist, a black officers' leader has said. National Black Police Association (NBPA) president Tola Munro said forces needed to do more to recruit black and minority ethnic (BME) officers. Figures show 6.3% of police officers in England and Wales are BME, compared to 14% of the population. The Home Office said it was "clear that there is more for forces to do". Among women the percentage of BME officers is even lower. According to the Home Office's latest data there were 1,863 BME female police officers out of a total of 35,844 - just 1.5% of the total compared to 7% of the population. West Yorkshire Police has now launched a campaign to actively recruit more BME women officers. It's difficult for the Police to attract recruits from minority backgrounds, maybe if more applied it would get better. Hard task trying to sell the job to the communities who despise the Five-O. It isn't as if the Police could hold a gun to the head of a black man and......er, well actually.....
It's gonnae be difficult to recruit black men when people with criminal records aren't allowed to join the force. PMSL, ha ha ha @monacoger
Strange that there are less BEM females cops than males, I would have thought it would be the other way round. I'd assume that males would be even less trusting of the institution than females and therefore less likely to join, so maybe trust/perception of the Police is not the issue here?
I find it disgusting the level of sexual discrimination in the bin man profession, the positions are almost entirely filled by males. I would go so far as to say I have never seen a woman doing the job. They should force employers to interview a percentage of women for this role to stamp out this blatant old boy's club.
People don't really take female polis seriously (unless they're the butch dyke types). Same wi' for dwarves.
