He could always come to us. He'd fit our set up perfectly imo. Doubt we'd ever meet his wage demands though. He'd have to come for the honour of playing in games like today and winning the title next year

Ridiculous, Balotelli had the potential to be one of the best in Europe at one point, Theo has always been hugely overrated, never had the potential to be 'top notch'. Chambo was much better at the same age.

 

Balotelli had bags of talent but was never going to be top notch because he's a ****. It was clear as day at a young age that his attitude was terrible.

 

Yeah point taken but he had 5 times the talent of Theo, who was never going to be top class.

Typical English disease of hyping a youngster because they're quick ignoring their lack of technical ability... See Shaun Wright Philips etc.

 

SWP was another that moved too young. He also went for the money (twice!) and completely wasted his career as a result.

Pretty much the point I was initially making; poor decisions ruining careers. Last others move on again to try and rectify their mistake. Theo as just deludedly sat there.

 

Yeah he did move too early and stayed there too long but I'm disputing your assertion that he could have been 'top notch', he was never that great really. A pace merchant who couldn't finish.

Walcott showed flashes of what he could do. He's terrorised some teams over the years which shows he has the ability. He needed more playing time and quality coaching. I think Arsenal failed to give him either.

 

Lots of good young players have gone to or been brought up at Arsenal, the problem is they have never been pushed to reach their potential.
It's alright being nice and understanding to young players and protecting them when they hit a bad patch is essential. Unfortunately, at Arsenal they are never given the kick up the arse that some need to make them realise how good they could be if they put the effort in.

 

Is that something Arsen denied him

 

Proof is in the pudding with Oxlade now. Playing far better than he ever did in a Arsenal shirt.

 

I agree with you both that Arsenal probably isn't a great place for young players, Chambers is another who's stagnated hugely since going there.

I'm just saying that there's this myth that Walcott had world class potential (or close to it) as a kid when in reality he was simply never that good and purely overhyped.

Said on here when you signed him that Klopp would be good for him. I know it was league one but always thought he had great potential.

Again, probably left too early and should have stayed for the Championship season after promotion.

 

Imo the issue is Wenger babies his players.

I believe no critical of a player is allowed and he actively shelters them from anything That might "distract"

This is why they don't develop.

 

When I say top notch, I meant more along the Michael Owen / Jamie Carragher wavelength; limited in ability but if he applied the attributes he did have to the best of their ability he'd be extremely hard to stop.
