I think those saying yes are panicking about the sale of Coutinho. Sure, it wouldn't hurt to have him here earlier (4mths) than expected but not at a cost of £13m! He'll take a couple of months to adjust anyway.
Weren't the rules changed guaranteeing the big leagues 4 positions? I beleive effective 2018/19 season
That's a bit over dramatic... Maybe it lies somewhere in the middle? Coutinho was not single handedly responsible for us being in our current league position nor did we arrive at it with him sitting with his feet up. That position 4th, just. A fact. Coutinho one of our main creative players is gone. Does that kill our team? Of course not but it's an option missing from a team that when we had him we managed to get a whole 3 points clear of 5th. Now DVD has come in. Will him as an added option balance the team enough i.e. where we miss a creative option up front we gained a defensive one at the back? Will be great if it works that way. Are we confirmed in for another creative option? Not yet. Great if we have one targeted, even better if we can get them this window. If the club tells me as a fan it can't get a replacement target this window but will pay the extra to get a confirmed target earlier and that isn't going to effect going for the other targets? What's the problem? I don't run multi million pound business or deals so I'm not in a position to second guess them. All I can do is judge either the results of them paying extra and getting him or not or someone else. Either way we could make top 4 or better...or fail. By all means if a target for 13 million can be found that adds a similar option and will actually be a real option after 4 months go get em! Otherwise that's a waste too. What's panicky about that? We have these same debates year after year..."he's not worth that...he's not worth this....its a nonsense....no human is....maybe surgeons or something but sports entertainers....it became a nonsense argument since the figures went into millions to kick a bag of air. When was the last time the owners made any noise about a limited kitty that doesn't allow us to get the managers targets? Here we all are playing financial chess...."oooh...we'll show we are soft...we aren't playing hard ball...we'll ......" I don't give a ****. Are they targets the manager wants...can we get them without damaging the club financially? That's it...all I care about. After that they are simply players and their performances will decide a managers fate.
That's not remotely the same thing. You said those agreeing were panicking. I haven't seen a sign of that in the posts of those agreeing. Maybe I missed it. Summary. So far those agreeing have been accused of: Panicking Talking bollocks Not understanding the financial side of football. Will be responsible for a weak lfc transfer negotiation position. Must have missed the not606 course where we got taught all that. Unless There's some bored club CEO's and Negotiators using the forum in their spare time.... So a repeat: club can pay what they want for a managers target as long as it doesn't put club in danger and they don't come back saying "we wanted x as well but couldn't afford him" Players whatever the cost decide the managers fate on the green stuff.
The deals already been done and we've already paid over and above the requirement. Paying more to get him now BECAUSE Coutinho as gone is a reaction move; aka "we must do something now" = panic! If we plan to get someone like gotezka (sp) in the summer but feel we need someone in the mean time, great. However, Keita is not a Coutinho replacement so bringing his signing forward because Coutinho's gone makes little sense
20mill to get Keita now rather than in the summer is outrageous. He's supposedly downing tools and not giving any effort into his RBL performances as he clearly wants out and being disruptive in terms of team spirit, in which case they would be far better suited to just get rid now. This is basically why Klopp wanted Coutinho gone; he was being disruptive in the dressing room, not listening to Klopp and feigning injury. I say just leave them be. When it comes to deadline day and he's being a little **** to them, they'll come back to us with a much smaller fee. Griezemann is meant to be of interest to us? Hilariously unlikely, but might as well throw our hat in the ring. Don't see him coming or us being able to afford his wages but imagine if we could pull it off! Interest is apparently genuine despite what that Spanish Balague moron says (he's always wrong from what I've read from him anyway). I'd still keep Firmino as the attacking focal point, but let Griezmann float behind, around or making runs beyond. Would be also be funny to see such an impressive forward 4 with simpletons Milner and Henderson sitting behind them
You're entitled to your opinion - and so are others without being accused of being irrational. I can't decide about this, but I think there's a debate to be had and there's no point in anyone trying to close it down summarily.
To answer the question in the title. Its because English journalists can't get their head around pre-arranged transfers, the idea of divided loyalty confuses the hell out of them. Whereas across Europe its a fairly common thing, especially in Germany
That's shocking if true, the man has already got his move and agreed to the terms. What kind of **** is he? RBL are right in this too, I would imagine if you paid £30m more in the summer he would be with you now but you agreed a fee for next year, if you want to bring that forward then the price should be adjusted to suit.
Naby Keita is cup tie, cannot play in champion league, would benefit us in the premier league and FA cup though.
I agree. I want out of my job, but I still put 100% in because it's a public service and there are others directly effected
