The problem with opinions as my coaching mentors point out is they are not factual. The future game and the game that exists now means Goalkeepers contact with the football is around 70% with the feet. They will have more touches of the football than the forwards, even defenders and midfielders. A Keepers foot skills have to be of a high standard. Any team with a keeper with passing accuracy below 60% Frankie Fieldings is just below but has been below 50% - The team logically will experience more challenges defensively, and be less flexible tactically. Coach courses for Keepers now heavily emphasize the above. Keepers have to be footballers. The game now sees Keepers with passing accuracy averages above 70%, even 85% at Manchester City who play through the thirds and keep it short - Bravo has managed 100% in games! Bristol City are a team who play through the thirds, values possession, keep the game short but have Keepers with low passing averages. City also play high lines, normally this necessitates Keepers playing high to control the space outside of the box and become an option. Bristol City's Keepers do not. A logical progression is to address the imbalance This is where the game is and will continue to go.
