45 shots on target, 3 goals, one point and out in the first round - positives?

    I can't find any.

I'm not saying Dyche out or anything as stupid as that. But this is rediculous. We need a striker. Its all well and good saying we have one in the "pipeline" but seriously. The stats in the title are woeful.

Tonight was shocking, I listened to most of the game and we just cudn't put a league 2 team away. I know they're favourites to go up but even so, that performance was terrible.

45 shots in what? 5 games. 3 goals. Please Watford, get a striker.

Summed up by the guys who took our penalties.

Would any other side have 3 defensive type players selected to take a kick in the first 5?

It suggests a lack of faith/confidence in the attackers apart from Sordell.

Money spent would probably stop us going down......and stop us losing more money. They need to pull their finger out and keep us in the Championship.

You asked for positives. You have them in the title. 45 shots. Yes we all know we need another striker that will hopefully make the difference up front. But we are creating chances. We are getting into decent positions in every game we have played but have lacked the quality of the final ball or final finish that will make the difference. When we stop playing well, or when we are only have 10 shots on target that is when you worry. Whilst we are still creating i think it gives everybody hope a change in luck or an extra player and we are not far from turning it around. Certainly no crisis yet IMO. That starts when we're not even creating chances!

And in response to your title, we have 2 points. And 1 clean sheet in our first 4 league games. If we kept that up we would have 12 clean sheets for the season which isn't bad?

Oh bloody hell. Did all the adding up of the shots on target and got the points wrong. Point still stands though!

True Chris but tonight we were playing a League 2 side.

Its hardly a shock TBH as we always do poorly in this cup but disppointing.

    There are several;

    1) Walker had a great game!!
    2) The whole team bossed the whole game
    3) We are not afraid to shoot unlike previous years
    4) It was only a cup game
    5) It gives the kids plenty of experience
    6) The team seems to have gelled a lot with partnerships developing between Deeney,Forsyth and Sordell.

I know we have not scored even 1/4 of the goals we should have, but the fact that the keepers have been MOTM in tonights match and others too. Also how many penalties should we have been given in the matches now?? I make it 4, two tonight and two against Cov. This is getting outrageous and the FL need to look into this. We are being denied penalties and having points stolen by consistently poor officiating. If we had had the decisions we should have we could have another 4 points in the league and be in the 2nd round of the Carling cup.

Market - true but as you pointed out we always do badly in the cup. Just because we were playing a league two club doesn't mean we should look like world beaters. Sometimes it just doesn't happen. We don't have particularly creative players at our club at the MO. Last year we lost to Notts County in the cup. Don Cowie played in the team that lost that night but that doesn't mean he can't unlock defences at Championship level. So i don't understand your point about us playing against a league two team tonight. Sometimes even good players at a higher level don't do it in those games.

There are lots of positives, the new signings have bedded in quite well, I saw Iwelumo against Burnley rather than West Ham and he was impressive. We were the better side in all of our games apart from West Ham, its just such bad luck that we have been really good in four games yet not won any of them. Even against West Ham Green had to make a good couple of saves at key times. On another day, our shots would actually go in. Yes we need another striker, but I still have a lot of faith in Dyche.

Agreed with that and its not like we lost 4-0 having not turned up.

Sounds like had this sort of performance been against another Championship side we'd just be cursing our luck again...only trouble is we don't want to be doing that for too long!

Lets see if Dychey can get a couple of players in..its easy to say sack a manager but who'd come in as a replacement?

Strangely enough I don't feel like topping myself tonight. There were positives. Gilmartin appears to be competent, in fact Price reckons his kicking is better than Loach. Mirfin played really well, so much so that our commentators reckoned he was our star player. The Prince showed that he is getting fit and several times showed glimpses of being a good addition to the squad. Walker was good and only came off I believe because Prince needed some game time.

It is to state the obvious that we desperately need a goal poacher who just has to benefit from the vast number of chances created. Big Chris is probably not the poacher, but can offer something different. This really has to be the crunch time for the owner. Will he be prepared to use some of the money that has come in to get that person? I would be worried if I was in his position that unless I could attract the right player anything else I did for the good of the club could be wasted.

    Totally agree with this:

Firstly, It's the Carling Cup. It's no big deal if we progress or fail. Second, we were by far the better team and probably should have won. Lastly, we lost on penalties. We weren't beaten by a big margin, which would have been very worrying.

There was no cut and thrust, some terrible passing. We have got to learn how to pass the ball along the ground or get them to control a bouncing ball, yes we did have the majority of the game, but we would have been lucky to score in a brothel! Eyewitness report!

Err where did expressions like "the Football League should look into why Watford have no penalties"!!!!!

Think again, we maybe unlucky but some of our attempts to "win a penalty" defy belief. Yes we are a struggling club and refs don't often give decisions to strugglers.

Do we really believe one "star striker" will fix all our ills? And how much do you want to spend?

Having only just got back from holiday, and so not having seen any games so far, I can't comment too much. However, 45 shots on target is not a bad sum. Granted it means nothing if we don't put them away, but it would be a bigger worry at this stage if we were not creating anything.

Therefore, the one positive I would suggest is that despite losing our most creative player we are still doing OK. Another is that we seem to be tighter at the back(? West Ham not included)

There is the bad luck option regarding not given penalties, but we are where we are so I will ignore those. Overall, I don't think we should be at the stage that they are on the WO website, but 3 points soon would be good.

That is the worry that we panic into spending over the odds on a striker just to get someone in. People have been calling for Le Fondre; is 600K (on the basis he is out of contract in a year) a good move when he is unproven at this level? Could it be another Hoskins? I think there are goals in this side; although, clearly, we need more.

Id be worried if we werent creating chances, but we clearly are. Its only a matter of time before things click.

A striker will come in before the window closes, and we still have the obligatory loan signings from the Premiership to come - hopefully we'll get a couple of good'uns - so its not time to push the panic button yet. I believe its only a matter of time before the team goes out, everything goes for them in the game and we win 5-0.
