I can understand your frustrations but it's the cup, we always do badly. Wilbs is our last choice striker, I'm pretty sure lambert would consider putting pilks up front before him, so he's purely cups and reserves.

You just have to take these defeats. MK are full of goals and we couldnt be arsed. Much rather it happens here in the cup where there's no points at risk

    QPR fan in peace

I'm of the opinion that our manager threw the game tonight and I'm disgusted at the thought of it. Any of you boys reckon Lambert did the same to "concentrate" on the League?

Lambert would never "throw" a game but he certainly didn't put as much effort into it. We're both focussed on the league and the players know that as well as the manager

Difference is, lambert would never tolerate this in the league.

I don't agree. I think he shouldn't tolerate it in any competition.

You can say it was our second string, but many of these players were first teamers recently. What were they doing? Not trying to get in the first team, that's for sure.

I remember not long ago making a long trip to, and losing to, Bury in a cup competition. Lots of people said it didn't matter. As a punter, it mattered to me! I won't go to another cup game if that's our view on it.

This could be a/the reason why League Cup attendances are not very good in the early stages. PL sides fielding under-strength or 2nd XI teams and not performing (Unless you are Arsenal). Fans are getting fed up with it and refusing to go to what is effectively a 90 minute training session.

    I agree with Gandy.

What people also forget is these kinds of matches may be the only way young kids get to see a game if we are sold out every week. These are the new breed of canaries tasting their first sips of Carrow Road and they were treated to a shower of ****e! What a lasting memory that is!

And for goodness sakes stop going on about Birmingham - we won the cup in '85 and all I can remember of that year is the great memories of our win at Wembley - not the relegation! I'd much rather have a trophy than worry about staying in the Premier League for eternity with no ambition to do anything else! Otherwise what you are saying is it is nice to play against world class players week in week out and that is it! Sorry but I would rather experience the passion of the last two years over boring mid-table Aston Villa esc years.

I didn't see the game so my opinion is probably worthless, I listened to the game and turned it off at 3-0 down.

You say the players were not trying to get into the first team, we both know that's nonsense so do you think they were trying too hard? In other words they could not get hold of any real fluency and pattern of the game with procession with and without the ball? Or was their zero chemistry? Because Lambert says he is going to need everyone this season this leads me to believe will this happen in a league game because your bringing in players that haven't had much experience in playing in the new formation and team with new faces, yes of course they know each other well they train and play with each other every day but their is nothing like a competitive match and it may take time to embed more chemistry which is natural when we've made as many signings as we have made. Time will tell and have 100% trust in Lambert because hes an exceptional talent.

I just hope Wilbraham doesn't make the 25 man squad and I agree with above why not bring back Cody in the mix, give him a few reserve games get his mind and ambition back with succeeding with Norwich you don't know until you give someone a chance to prove themselves.

Precisely going on a cup run lives long in the memory, not scraping a lowly existence, being mullered on the Premier League dining table.

I bought a friend along, who hasn't seen a game live for 6+ years, and told him that it should be a routine fixture...had to eat humble pie (however, we both went to the beam back for the Ipswich game, which was 5-0, so he had a reference at least in terms of performance)

Was sorely tempted to leave early given the debacle unfolding before us, however given our recent history with late goals, thought it wise to stay and continue my loyal support, even if I was horrified! :(

I wasn't having a go at you in particular Yellow - I just get fed up of lots of people and teams using that as some kind of excuse. I think it's utter rubbish!

I think if you look at the substitutions it tells the story - lambert and players included weren't too fussed about it - I'd imagine plenty of tackles pulled out of etc...but the sad thing is that it's an opportunity for those players playing to give lambert something to think about in the premier league games coming up - I wonder if several players played themselves out of the 25 tonight?

unless it's lamberts tactical genius - getting avb to think were beaten before they've played us...

ChrisAcle, to say you'd rather win a cup than stay up this season has to be one of the most bizarre posts I've ever seen!

    Would you really want that?

I appreciate the sentiment, a good cup run does live long in the memory but the Premiership is a much different (for the worse) beast than the old Div1, and the importance of staying here is absolutely colossal.

Staying up means guaranteed financial stability, and my god we've been down in the dumps in recent years. I'd happily say right now I'd rather be competitive in the Prem than win a cup and end up back in the NPC.

However I'd be perfectly happy to win The FA cup and stay up!

Nothing personal mind, I think perhaps its a case of "you had to be there" sort of thing to appreciate what its like, whereas throughout my life all we've done is piss around in the **** leagues.

Throughout Lambert's career, we've never been humiliated by a shocking display by players that just seemed not to care like we were under Gunn, Roeder, Grant, Hamilton, Rioch...
Losing happens but not turning up is inexcusable whatever the competition.

Totally agree mate <ok> Unfortunately the game is all about money these days the romance is being sucked out of it more and more with each season that passes. I appreciate that we need to stay in the PL financially, but like Chris says what's the joy of finishing lower mid-table and scraping to safety every season?

I long so much for the good old days when money wasn't the be all and end all of things, sadly I can't see it ever being like that again <cry>

I understand where you're coming from Sid. Remember the blanket going round the pitch at half time?
I too wish that money wasn't the be all and end all in football, but that's the way it is nowadays, and if it means us as a club being finanacially stable, and thus being able to attract better players, leading to success, then I would much prefer to stay in the premier than win a cup and get relegated.
Remember the last few times we have been relegated from the premier? It hasn't been that easy to get back up again.
