Milk is expensive over there. Pay equivalent of £2.40 for a gallon over here... Or £2.60 after sales tax... A third less. So would take a lot longer to fund VvD if buying milk for me because milk here is cheaper.

actually its the damned EU forcing metric on us.

thats one of the main reasons (along with rampant racism) that britain voted to leave the EU.

One this is for sure and certain. the next time that the uk sends people to mars they won't die of thirst cos they put litres instead of gallons in the water tank.

SI units have always been used in science, for obvious reasons.

Can I ask a stupid question if anyone knows lol.

I was brought up that I was 6'1" not whatever the ****ing metre equivalent is. Same as stone not lbs in weight.

Same as I used to buy potatoes in lbs not kgs.

Will we go back to how we used to do things?

    dunno tbh.

I know nobody who uses metres for height.

yanks do 250lbs (greez) man was found dead in bathrooms of KFC.

The EU standardised everyone to 454g of butter not a half a pound of butter and thats one thing

then buy a litre or two litres of milk etc.

What does it really matter at this point?

are we going back to shillings and thu'pennies too?

    I mean I always say 6 foot 4" for a Cb not 1.93m

It's quite confusing lol when you try and help your kids with homework etc but they are taught completely different methods to how I was taught.

Whats with the shillings and pennies comment? Makes no sense.

You know that for a fact rhc?

Being in the science field I guess you would get heads up if it could happen.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrication_in_the_United_Kingdom

    my view is this:

we adapted to 100 pennies in a pound from 20 shillings, 12 p in a shilling (i think) and that was way back when. nobody shouts about that too much.

1995 i can clearly remember the fuss and old biddies shouting about buying in pounds. Thats 22 years ago. (nearly as long ago as LFC last title :bandit:)

I don't see why anyone would out of patriotic fervour want to move back.

    eg.

who buys a variable amount of butter now? I buy a tub of butter. i only happen to know theres 454g in most tubs to be 16 ounces. no kid would have a clue thats the case. A single person might by a smaller tub. we didn't move to 500g in a tub say like someone in france might have.

Look at the recipe books. stick of butter, ounce of butter, grammes of butter.

same for milk. a pint, 2 pints or 0.568l or 1.136 litres... does this matter. a litre is a litre. 1000cm cubed.

How does this really affect our daily lives..... BUT today's modern world of inventories and computer systems could mean someone trying to change units to ounds and ounces might find uproar in the retail businesses about systems updates.

We've been metric for way too long now. It would cause too much upheaval for no real reason. Think of the complications for international trade. We've enough **** round the corner on that note anyway.

Sure I just use whatever I first used with each thing.

    Miles etc for distance.

Weirdly stones for self weight kgs for everything else. Except a quarter of sweets...would never go into the corner shop and ask for 113.398 grams of midget gems...

As long as it gets you want you want lol

Metric makes more sense in most cases. Would make no sense confusing everyone and moving back onto an archaic measurement system.
