You mean comfortably top 8 via goal difference ahead of Bournemouth, 1 point ahead of West Ham & West Brom? The same squad that dropped 17 points last season from the previous season?
Don’t think anyone is suggesting that we can be a silk purse. But it’s hard to argue that a more competent manager wouldn’t get more out this team. Before we spend millions on expensive players why not get a manager who can do the basics well. Like defending.
Too many good players are simply not performing under Pellegrino, I think that must be down to his coaching. Redmond and JWP played for England last season, Davis, Tadic, Stephens, Gabbi, Romeu, Long just don't look the same players. We have the players to be top ten, we just need a positive direction. identity and a pattern of play, that all comes from the Manager.
We have some decent players, but too many average players. People on here tend to be guilty of over rating a lot of our players, which is natural I guess. If we were to get relegated we'd lose (to good sides) Cedric, Bertrand, Lemina, Hojbjerg and Boufal. Gabbiadini would probably get a move back to Italy and Romeu would end up at a mid table La Liga team. Apart from that, we have a squad that wouldn't be out of place in the Championship.
Blackmore and Pellegrino post-match... https://audioboom.com/posts/6576395-pellegrino-post-palace-defeat
Agree. Still don’t really understand what our approach is. Other than don’t let the fullbacks get too far past the half way line, run at the defence, square ball/backwards pass.
The board need to wake up before its to late. Admit their mistakes and get a manager in to coach and set up the team better. Massive games will be Bournemouth, Brighton and Stoke at home. Then West Ham, Swansea, WBA and Newcastle away. So act before its to late.
The squad is lacking but how have some decent players become so poor. We shouldn't be 17th and therefore it needs to be bye bye to MP2. We lack a winning mentality and that comes from management and tactics
Probably right about the coaching. But I don't think there was any lack of effort, in which case Pellegrino may not have lost the dressing room, even if he's lost the fans. Either way, someone needs to coach that side not to drop deep and defend a 1-0 lead with 30 minutes to go. At this stage, I would be in favour of rolling the dice and getting someone else in. But even more urgently imo, we need at least two January signings, and they don't both have to be strikers but they do both have to be capable of finding the back of the net. Did we have anyone on that pitch today capable of scoring a goal like Mijalovic's? Actually, maybe we did - didn't Hojberg hit a similar strike in the first half, which Hennessey tipped over? I don't know any more. ****it, I'm going to bed
Galling that Huddersfield already have a signing in the bag - Reed/Wilson need a rocket up their backsides
When have we ever been quick to act in the transfer market? The last transfer I can rememeber that we wrapped up seemingly quick was Long. We'll drag our heels for a good few weeks yet.
ON THE GAME AND LEAGUE POSITION... - I think we are in a difficult moment - It's also difficult because we did everything to try and win the game in the first half - Suddenly we changed - The players lost confidence - We started playing deeper and gave the other team a chance to react and get on top - In football, when one side wins another loses - This position in the table isn't just about today, it reflects that for a long period we have not been playing the way we should do - We do not deserve to be in the Premier League at this current level ON WHOSE FAULT THIS SITUATION IS... - A big part of this is the manager, I am responsible but I am only a part of one context - In this context there are good things, difficult things and bad things - Some people are in good moments, some are not, some are in really bad moments - The reality is we are in a difficult moment - We have to put our shoulders to try to react (???) ON TRANSFERS AND IF SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON THEM... - Hopefully the market can allow us to bring people to improve our squad - Not just on the pitch, also off the pitch - It will give confidence not just to the squad but to everyone here - January signings can help us to stay up, like all of the ones we have - Every individual player is just a percentage, but we need all of them now ON SHANE SCORING... - Hopefully Shane can score in the next few games and not in another 10 months - We have to be positive - Shane is positive and always works hard for the team - It's a shame his goal didn't amount to any points
From my perspective, I would roll the dice and offer Graham Murty a three and a half year contract. Very poor of Glasgow Rangers to only offer him a contract until the end of the season. Entice him away from Ibrox and I think he would deliver provided he is backed by the board.
