MVG v Cross is probably the greatest darts match ive ever seen. And what a year for Cross. Only won his first prize money as a professional in February (£250), now he's ranked 6th in the world and into the world championship final. I really hope Taylor wins though. He's a bit of a bell end, but what he's done for darts is truly remarkable.
You need the best car, hence Jenson Button actually winning a championship. Granted there are some better drivers than others, but it doesn't matter how good you are, if your car isn't the best then you won't win it. The teammates that finish in different positions are down to the team prioritising one driver in the workshop, pit and race. A bit like when Wiggins won the the TDF , put him and Froome head to head in that tour and Froome would have won it but team orders stopped him from doing so.
It's just competitive transport. The great British bake off has tactics and is competitive, it doesn't make it a sport.
Genuine question, do people actually enjoy going to watch the darts live? I went once and it was honestly a living hell, it's just a bunch of loud plebs in fancy dress drinking lager and fighting amongst themselves. I'm not a fan of darts so wasn't really bothered what was happening on the stage (not that I could see it anyway) but I thought if I genuinely liked the game/sport, then the live experience would really piss me off.
MVG/Cross was one of those 'I'll just watch this set' matches... and then the next one.... the booing was bang out of order but it must take all sorts of gonads to stand there and hit some of the outshots they both hit. MVG was broken at the end, or before the end, but as DJB has said, Taylors been there and got a wardrobe full of t shirts, I'll be surprised if he's beaten.
I've been to the premier league a couple of times , and I enjoyed it because I treat it like a night out with the darts as a sideshow , I think most do and everyone excepts that - it's a piss up and a sing song - I've never seen fighting , usually the opposite and it's been a good laugh - as a darts fan I'd never go to the worlds or one of the other majors as I actually want to see what's happening and enjoy the action
Been to Blackpool Winter Gardens and it was fantastic. Yeah its a piss up but everyone was friendly and definitely no trouble. The venue is smaller than i was expecting too and quite intimate. Good views of the darts from everywhere. Would definitely do it again over the premier league arenas
Does The great British bake off have national and international competitive organisation? It seems a strange comparison to bring that in. I think many just compare other 'sport' to football and say every one has to involve running around just because football does.
They do everything from make the rules and choose who competes through to selling the tv rights and advertising, just like any sports governing body. The only difference is they don't test for peds, although saying that neither do the cycling governing bodies.
I've been to a premiere darts event in Manchester. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, thinking the atmosphere would be intimidating like boxing matches I'd been to, full of testosterone, macho wannabes. But no, we had a great night with likeminded folk who had gone out to enjoy themselves. I'd go again.
