Arry's only involvement was to let him go out from Spurs on loan to us. Twice. Then being conned by Warnock to sell him to us for one million. Genius.. Mind you he did give us Benny as well and Krancjar on loans. Once we were up he raked in real transfer fee cuts on Caulker but then he knows nothing about that. Bring him back . We miss his diamond touch.
Very succinctly put SB. As was your post running through the team. We do have a squad capable of more than we are currently seeing. The big question is does the manager hold the same capability and can he see it quick enough to make it happen? Like SB, I don’t believe that there aren’t managers out there who wouldn’t take the step up given the opportunity. People say it is a gamble ... any more of a gamble than doing nothing? I’m haven’t hung my coat on the decision to let Holloway go... yet - there’s no denying it’s a dilemma - and IF Ferdinand and Hoos ARE doing their job properly and looking at ‘potentials’ there are a number of them around in the lower leagues, however they may not be available until the end of the season.
When the numbers of goals coming from players who aren't strikers can be counted on one hand so far this season, and our strikers themselves aren't scoring many, I can't see that the players as an attacking unit are more than low Championship standard. None of them have scored hatfulls before at this level anyway, and there is little to suggest they will. Smithies, Ned, Pawel and Robinson are the only players I can think of who are upper Championship standard. Baptiste and Bidwell middle. The midfield 3 are ok but need to be chipping in with some goals, as does Pawel.
Oslo, are you really saying that Freeman couldn’t play at a much higher level ? With respect, in my opinion, he will sooner rather than later find himself playing in the Premier League
No, you are right all 3 Freeman Scowen and Luongo individually are probably mid Championship standard, perhaps more, but none of them scores more than the odd goal. So as a midfield unit with no goals in them they are no more than where we are low mid table standard, worse the last 2 games when less chances were created.
I could see Luongo and Freeman as PL players (obviously Low/mid table teams) and of course they will look better with better players around them. If Leroy Fer can get away with it multiple times it can’t be that big an ask. Luongo, as an industrious water carrier may do better than Freeman.
Aside from strikers (which is plainly where we are deficient) that squad is easily good enough for top half in this league. I keep reading that we should aspire to what Bristol City have achieved this season, but we outplayed them for an hour at LR, and only succumbed when they resorted to the kind Neanderthal tactics that Holloway often employs when chasing a game. Not much to admire there from a footballing perspective, but they are up the other end of the table from us, chasing Wolves (who of course we beat at LR). The difference can only be the manager, who is presumably more consistent than Holloway with his selections and tactics. Holloway is not a good tactician and there must be doubts about the quality of coaching that the first team squad is getting. I have been a supporter of Holloway based on his motivational abilities and his being a 'QPR man' - something which I think is very important to the new club ethos and shouldn't be underestimated - but it's becoming harder and harder to see how he is going to take club forward. The next couple of games may well make the difference between stick and twist.
At a stretch I can see them there with a goal scoring midfielder. A Fer maybe but then they'd come down again!
