End of season at minimum imo, bearing in mind we cannot afford known quality anymore and we are becoming a bit of a poison chalice at best, besides which how many will want to come knowing our playing staff budget is currently about £4-50. Not being funny but in all honesty Pep Guardiola would struggle with this lot, so maybe Ollie ain’t doing too bad in reality.
Hasn't TonyF been unusually quiet lately, pre-sacking modus? Or is that just because I don't do Twitter.
Not expecting anything from the Cardiff game which makes the Burton game truly massive. On the other hand, who expected anything from Wolves?
So which of our players do you think aren’t good enough for the championship? My take: Smithies - in my view he’d be fine in the PL, and will be regretting not staying with Huddersfield. Ingram, Lumley - don’t know Furlong - don’t know, never gets a run in the team Onuoha - easily a top half championship player Robinson - easily good enough for this league Hall - when fit easily good enough for this league Baptiste - looks a solid championship player to me Lynch - yeah, he’s rubbish. Bidwell - pretty average, but was good for Brentford - why not us? Perch - he’s a fair utility player for a mid table championship team There are the Finnish lad Niko and another young CB Kakay in the squad who never get a kick even when Ollie says we have no defenders Scowen, Luongo, Freeman - we are frequently told these are the best midfielders in the league, Luongo often heads stats for tackling and Freeman for assists. Must be good enough. Cousins - was Charlton’s most promising player now is usually below average, playing right wing back. Borysiuk- who knows? Manning - looked promising, seems to have gone backwards Goss - what the **** is that about? Shodipo - an exciting player who never gets a kick Chair, Bright- Samuel - so rarely used impossible to judge Pavel - looked like a decent right winger but has had the stuffing knocked out of him for some reason, possibly because he is playing right back in a de facto back five. Yeni - FFS, if he can’t get in ahead of Mackie he must be crap Sylla - described as ‘not the finished article’ by Les and Ollie and probably never will be because he’s not improving Washington - see Sylla Wheeler - be nice to see more of him, jury is out Mackie - a deeply average player who has learned nothing over the course of his now long career Grego Cox and Petrasso - if they haven’t made an impression yet they are never going to, never get a kick even though the rest of our attack don’t score goals. Mystifying why they have been retained in the squad Smith - exactly as expected, Low level championship player Eze - good season, but not for us. The attack is dire, but the rest are mostly good enough. Quite a few who haven’t kicked on, which I can only put down to coaching. Loads who we never see, begging the question why do we have them? I think there is more than enough for a decent manager to work with there. Given the time Ollie has had, Guardiola would have us up with Wolves. But he is a bona fide genius.
I just don't see Ollie getting the chop in the circumstances. We have absolutely zero room for manoeuvre in the transfer market at the moment and with FFP still to be resolved. An experienced manager (one who isn't a washed up dinosaur) isn't going to want to come to us and if they do I would be wary of their reason for doing so. That leaves younger up and comers but that's a massive gamble laden with risk (JFH for example) risk for both us and them. Maybe it is a bit sentinental but i think with where we are as a club Ollie's blue and white hooped blood does count for a lot. Yes we are playing a bit ****e at the moment but for long periods this season when confidence was higher Ollie has had us playing some decent stuff. A couple of decent results will change the complexion drastically. That said it is a results business so if we keep losing, who knows what will happen. Anyway Happy New year to all you old buggers let's hope for a late Christmas gift from Uncle Neil tomorrow .
I sincerely think it would. If a striker converted just one loss to a draw and one draw to a win we would be joint 13th with Norwich and Forest and I don't think we'd be having this discussion. Maybe.
I think it has to come down to coaching. You mention so many players who seem to have gone backwards at our club and not just this last year, it seems to be an endemic problem that dogs us year in year out. For such a great striker as he was Sir Les appears to be a complete ignoramus when bringing strikers into our club, none of ours appear to be capable of getting double figures goalswise in a season which is piss-poor. That allied to a complete lack of tactical nous from the manager and you have a perfect recipe for a relegation battle. Yes, our players will battle to the bitter end but the lack of quality is so painful to watch. I reckon the next two weeks will make or break Ollie's season, Cardiff will be a tough one and Warnock will be determined to put one over us. MK Dons are a good footballing side and Burton on their own patch will be no pushover. I wouldn't be surprised to see us lose all three...
A useful guide to any scouts looking to pick over the bone of our squad, good work. Seriously though how many will be left after the usual January "clearout" ?
If we get decent offers for anyone they will be sold. That’s the business model. Smithies, Freeman and Luongo probably the most attractive to buyers. Any PL teams need a keeper? Southampton perhaps, seeing as they were playing McCarthy at Liverpool. But the others would only go to championship clubs with money.
So in essence we're going to clearout the quality and resign our league position. I preferred the sweet little lies they used to tell us....dream manager my arse.
Just pre window worries Our current front players are not doing it but the team is sound enough to me to sustain championship status Hoping for a fresh face on loan to shake it up a bit
So a Warburton and Clements dream team with bobmid helping out and Ollie running the touchline dressed in the mascots outfit geeing up the crowd Bound to be room for some more sacked as not good enough elsewhere manager's to help out
