Very disappointing outcome from a game we should have taken all 3 points from, I thought Fieldings rush of blood was a huge mistake and Pack is enough of an experienced player to know that bringing down someone in such a dangerous position can have serious consequences. Also wasn't impressed with Bakers positioning at the free kick which led to their winning goal. As soon as they equalised I always thought they were more likely winners. Our heads dropped and we stopped pressing them. Will be interesting to see what sort of reaction this gets at Villa Park tomorrow.
What a lot of people are forgetting is that we’ve played 4 games now in 9/10 days, and will be 5 in 11 days come Villa tomorrow. We’ve got a depleted squad at the moment with three first teamers and one player playing on cortisone injection. If we had either Diedhiou or Djuric fit last night we wouldn’t be using Flint up front but needs must right or wrong. All the other teams have injuries but we’ve done brilliantly with ours so when we get some of those back I think it will be like getting new signings but new signings all singing from the same hymn sheet.
We played our best football with flinty up top we had 4 other defenders in the team we lacked height up front mags was putting crosses in tactically it was working flint could've been back there and had the lapse aswell 1 lapse in concentration doesn't mean it was tactically wrong
Why would we have wanted Flint back there, we were playing so well, if three defenders plus the goalkeeper couldn't take care of one attacker that's bad, we switched of at a vital time and paid the price i'm afraid.
We knew it would happen at some point so why would't it be the division leaders? I still think we are playing pretty good football and a rebound at Villa Park is required to keep all our heads in the right place. Party on.
If I see any of the players in the youth team I coach try and do a Cruyff where Pack did at the end, I read them the riot act. Kick it out for a throw and we have a point. That was sheer stupidity.
Sorry guys I stand by my post. To me it was like gambling double or nothing when already sitting on the jackpot. We lost and got nothing. Sure, if we had scored again we would have all, including me, been delighted, but we did NOT need to take that risk. We know that Wolves are experts at hitting teams on the break - and we are pretty good at doing that ourselves too (just ask Sheffield United). Why play into their hands? We knew that they would have to attack US at some point with their 10 men, so why not force THEM to play OUR game for a change? But no, instead we commit men forward like sending flies into a spiderweb instead of letting them approach our own spiderweb. At this level (and yes, I include us too - we are playing at a high level too) you cannot gamble like that or you will be punished. Overall I’m delighted with the season so far and don’t want to lose sight of that, but Wolves didn’t win yesterday - we gave it to them and that hurts me more than being outplayed by the better team. So frustrating. We could have and should have won.
Totally agree , was like we forgot everything we learned from last year , this year we've learned how to close games out , but yesterday for some reason we reverted to last season when we couldn't hold onto a lead . Flint should have dropped back after we'd scored we had not reason to take the game to them allowing them to play to their counter attaching strength, What was slightly worrying was lees reaction after the game, he didn't seem to think it was an error. On a slightly different note he blamed mags again for first goal, which is debatable and even if accurate don't like it when managers blame for ndividusls in public, apart from anything else wtf was frankie thinking of charging our like a headless chicken. Don't get me wrong we'll chiffed with 3rd place this time of year. Well done lads on an amazing year so far.
Been out tonight with Manure, Chekski, West Ham and even Cardiff fans and the praise that they gave us tonight was unreal. Normally on New Year’s Eve with old friends I’ve aleays been ridiculed but tonight they were singing our praises saying that’s how the game should be played. Last nights game cameup and they all said that we should all hold our head up as both teams on display was a credit to the championship.
Overall I am bursting with pride about how we have performed this season. We took our eye off the ball yesterday - LJ is human. Let’s get back to the office tomorrow. COYRs
We were running on fumes especially towards the end of the game , we sometimes forget tiredness affects decision making too. We still made a good account of ourselves against a Wolves side that are the best team I've seen at the gate this season , apart from us of course. We should all be very proud of our achievements this season & let's not forget we are still well in the mix for at least the play offs and no reason why we can't still challeng for automatics. If you'd suggested at the beginning of the season we'd be in this position at the beginning of 2018 ide have thought you were on day release from Barrow Gurney. Here's hoping the remainder of the season will be as successful as up to thus point. COYR
Exactly.. thats why you revert to what you know. Thats what happened to Pack, it was a tired decision, same with Wright when he lost the ball.
Exactly banksy , if you are that desperate to have a player alongside Reid , in the after game interview lee said he felt our man advantage was too deep in the first half, then personally once we'd scored ide have put Flint back and bought Woodrow on to play that role.
How many times would Bailey Wright normally hassle and put off the attacking defender at set pieces? You would say 90% of the time. As would you say the same of Pack booting the ball away. Saturday’s game which should imo be as much reserve players as possible playing to allow the others rest for next Tuesday. And given the tiredness in the players I would be tempted to rest some of them then as well to allow us to concentrate on league.
Agree Rod, personaly would concentrate on league over ALL remaining cup games , including the blue Manchester variety , I know many would disagree with the latter , but honestly what ide do.
That's fair comment Banksy, but Baker and Steele could have done better from the free kick Pack conceded. And the more you see the replay, the worse it makes them both look.
