for those of you who care Muscat retired some years ago after returning to Oz and playing for Melbourne Victory, anyway his final game was the A League grand final against their biggest rivals Sydney FC. The game itself was a rather tasty affair and eventually went to pens. All were converted until Muscat who had been their main taker all season, missed his and Sydney converted theirs- he promptly announced his retirement. He's been coaching Melbourne for about 3 years now and he still winds up rival supporters.
It looks to me like Mark Hughes might be on his way out after his team let in 2 in less than 10 minutes. He's only survived this far at Stoke because of the defence.

I've said it before, but he's one of the managers that took over strong defences and temporarily benefited from it.
He's clueless about how to organise a defence and it shows.
Martinez at Everton, Bilic at West Ham and Hughes at Stoke all joined clubs with dull, dour managers that had their teams working hard and defending well.
Moyes, Allardyce and Pulis created well drilled sides that wouldn't give up and let you have it easy.
Chuck a few talented players in there to add some flair and you've got the making of something good.
The problem is that you have to keep working on the basics and maintain the work rate.
They all failed to do that, so the initially strong, cohesive sides gradually got sloppier and easier to break down.
A season or two in and the influence of the old blokes has gone and the defences went to ****.

That is a poor result for United. Jose was pointing the finger at Pawson on the iffy penalty decision, but the reality is United were nowhere near good enough on the day, again.
The team hasn't progressed from last season.
No urgency, no desire, lacking any attacking intent, no creativity in midfield, no natural goalscorer in the team.
They can defend, keep the ball and nullify the opposition, but are so lacking when it comes to doing anything with the ball.

I've watched them a fair few times this season and also still can't come to terms with how we let them beat us up there. Can't wait for the return fixture.
The Special Once is retreating ever further into his hair-brained conspiracy theories, now blaming referees for every dropped point rather than the cack football he has them playing. Similar writing is on the wall to the days he lost the Chelsea changing room.
I would say the same, but our return fixture is sadly at Old Trafford where we haven't won in the league since 2006. We did beat them there in 2015 on our way to winning the FA Cup (thanks to Valencia's mishit backpass), but obviously positive results there are far and few in between for us.
Every time they drop points where they shouldn't, you can telegraph what he's going to say. His words may gather the interest of the masses when you're winning the majority of your games and are looking a cut above the remaining pack, but when you consistently underperform and struggle to get positive results/performances, particularly after spending the amount of money that he has, it becomes tiresome.
His mindgames aren't working. His tactics aren't working. His management isn't working. The writing will be on the wall very soon methinks...
