The media must be very confident in Southampton's success, because I have seen no mention of how losing one of our best players will affect us. I'm pretty sure this would be discussed ad nauseum if one of the top 6 lost such an important player. They must think we can cope well. #sarcasmmode
VVD is unlikely to effect our results negatively as he has hardly played in 2017. Hopefully not having his big sulky ass about the training ground might help raise morale
Not so much any more. VVD has lost everything that made him special since he came back. Which means the passing, joining the attack, being able to beat a defender or two with the ball, and beyond those skills just the extra energy level on the pitch. I know why Klopp was willing to pay the price. Liverpool need help and VVD is potentially the best CB in the world. But beyond that, he is perfect for Klopp’s system. Prior to the injury, I would have said it’s worth throwing in a little extra. It’s not like VVD is **** now. He still has skills, and he is still intelligent despite a tendency to lose concentration now and again. He will improve their line. But any decent 25m CB could have done that. And if VVD just wants to come in and perform his basic role as a CB then that’s all he is. They are paying for a CB who is much more than a CB. Maybe it is just VVD doesn’t know the new system. Maybe MP is just a bad manager. Maybe it is just VVD’s attitude. But maybe it’s the injury. Or maybe VVD hasn’t just soured on Saints, but football in general. I don’t know. I would not have paid 75m for him at this point, so I’m more than pleased Liverpool bailed us out of a tough situation.
