The former Sheffield Wednesday boss was officially announced as the replacement for Paul Clement on Thursday. please log in to view this image The club acted swiftly following last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool when Leon Britton was in temporary charge. Carvalhal had been sacked by Wednesday on Christmas Eve having previously been with Besiktas, Sporting Lisbon and Maritimo. He is the fourth manager of Swansea City within the past two years following Garry Monk, Francesco Guidolin and Bob Bradley. The pressure had been building on Clement during November but a 1-0 win over West Brom earlier this month earned him a reprieve. They have since managed just one point from four matches, conceding 13 and scoring just twice. The hammering at Anfield underlined just how serious things are for the Swans. They have been battling relegation for the past three seasons. It remains to be seen whether or not Carvalhal will be given the funds to buy new players in the January transfer window. please log in to view this image The Hornets are in tenth place in the table with 25 points from their opening twenty games. An alarming run of four straight defeats came to an end when they defeated Leicester City 2-1 on Boxing Day. They needed an own goal from Schmeichel to claim the victory but were certainly worthy of at least a point. Watford held Tottenham to a 1-1 draw at the start of December. They then suffered defeats against Burnley, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield and Brighton. They were particularly poor against Huddersfield, losing 4-1 following the sending off of Troy Deeney in the 33rd minute. Watford have scored 29 goals this season so far, 18 more than Saturday’s visitors. However, they have conceded 35 which is four more than the bottom club. The Hornets will be without club captain Deeney who is still serving a suspension for his red card. He will not be eligible until after Watford’s next fixture against runaway leaders Manchester City. Discipline has been a problem for Watford this season. They have received four red card, more than any other side in the Premiership. please log in to view this image Marco Silva has been talking. He said: “Confidence is very important. We can do everything in the same way and I can talk good things for our players to win some confidence, but the most important thing is results. “That’s clear for all the clubs, not only us, and of course the win gives us these things. We need to show the same spirit and attitude to face Swansea. “What can help us against them is if we play well and show the attitude and commitment as a team. That’s what will give us an advantage.” Team News New Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal could have Wilfried Bony available for the trip to Watford. Bony has missed the last two Premier League games with a hamstring injury suffered in Paul Clement's final match in charge. Tammy Abraham could return to the starting line-up but Ki Sung-yueng (calf) and Kyle Bartley (knee ligaments) are likely to miss out again. There is no news of any Watford injuries at present. If the crowd echoes the result of the referendum then the targets will be the majority in the stadium, so plenty to choose from.
Well we will probably expect to win which always worries me as the performance/result never seems to go that way!
We all post things then wonder how that got through, I suppose the answer is to read it back carefully before pressing the button!!
The trouble is you can read what you want to read rather than what is in front of you. Stats on a decent site you take to be correct, but as proven here they are not always.
I have noticed lots of mistakes on commercial online sites recently, I doubt if they use proper proof readers anymore as in my days in the print. The proof readers were held in very high esteem, followed by the compositors, then lowly printers like myself. We looked up to them but down on the print assistants, unbreakable union demarcation lines in those days.
Hope we give you boys a decent game, some of our players no longer deserve to wear our shirt, hope the new gaffer kicks some of their overpaid arses and at least gets them running, our situation is not looking good, especially after the Yanks took over, anyway you must be favourites for this game, all the best after tomorrow...............
DragonPhilJack on paper this should be 3 pts for us. Our win against the Foxes has rebuilt confidence and we have players with plenty of skills. But sloppy passing, bad delivery from set pieces, plus vulnerability to incoming set pieces, and a need to break red card records leaves us nervous. And that ‘impress new guy thing’ may mean you see your players doing what you ask. Presumably you’ll set up defensively and try to hit us on the break? It has worked against us before with us regretting early missed opportunities. And if you take out the games against the top 6 your December hasn’t been too bad. At least you scored goals which were very evidently lacking in November. Anyway I hope all who venture up the M4 have a safe day and that you start your winning run in January
Back down the road again today, doesn’t seem long at all since the last one (have told Mrs A1 that there’s only one PL home game in Jan...) The basics of this one are a Leicester performance and we’re in with a good shout, Brighton/Huddersfield performance and, bottom team or not, we’ll be in trouble. Some calls for Okaka to start and I think I’d go along with those. Wague was solid too so stick with him? COYH!
Just off to the game, feeling more confident with this fixture. We need a good start with an early goal so they need to attack. I thought Okaka looked slimmer last week, hopefully he can last the whole match today.
Roberto Pereyra could be fit to retain his place in the Watford line-up to face Swansea City tomorrow. The Argentine, who last completed 90 minutes of football on November 27th last year, was taken off just before half-time with a slight leg complaint against Leicester City on Tuesday. He trained with the Hornets again on Thursday but whether he is fit enough to play remains in the balance.
