Was it 2m? I have just read 6m. Even though still not a huge amount in footballing terms.

    Sky Bet:
We have suspended betting on Craig Bellamy to return to Liverpool after a number of large bets today

Never seen that one coming either, but yeah 2 million according to skysports, dont know much about him though, so cant really comment if its good or bad.

Honestly don't want Bellamy. He's had his day. Horibble little F****R. Can't stand his scrawny, screwed up twisty mug. Go to Liverpool. Please.

....Former Portsmouth star Nadir Belhadj has seen a move back to Britain fall through, skysports.com understands.

Celtic had been leading the chase for the 29-year-old Algeria international, who left Portsmouth to join Qatar side Al-Sadd last year.

The Scottish giants were keen on striking a deal and looked to be edging towards an agreement, but Al-Sadd pulled the plug.

Skysports.com understands that Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea were also interested, and Belhadj himself was keen to move.

But Al-Sadd decided the deal had come too late in the transfer window, so they opted against allowing any move to happen.

I was all for Belhadj before he left Pompey, good left back, and fast as lightning.

I'd still be keen on the idea now, if summat could be pushed through.

nah we just got a defender.......may be a bit old mind..

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender Steve Staunton has joined Steve Bruce's backroom staff at Sunderland.

The 42-year-old, who has had managerial spells at Darlington and the Republic of Ireland since retiring in 2005, will become the Black Cats' match assessor.

In the role Staunton will be required to produce detailed reports of the club's upcoming opponents.

Sunderland boss Bruce was delighted with the appointment of Staunton, who made nearly 600 appearances during his career, 102 of those for the Republic of Ireland.

"We are looking to Steve to bring a high level of expertise based on his long experience of football at the top level," Bruce told the club's official website.

"He joins a very experienced backroom team here at Sunderland and I'm sure he will be a great acquisition for us."
