He developed Maguire by farming him out to Wigan so he could play his son - Wigan returned the favour by signing his son and giving him a job cleaning boots and watching their games from the bench

I agree with Rosenior, although I think Odubajo was a more than adequate replacement, especially given their respective ages and sell on value, it wouldn't have harmed to keep Rosenior to strengthen the squad though.

Cairney was alright, he's since got a lot better, he'd walk into our team now but I don't think we've suffered the past few years from letting him go. Hindsight is great, I'm sure Man U wouldn't have let Pogba go if they knew how much they'd have to spend getting him back.

Is Cairney really that good? He’s the sort of player who easily goes missing in games for large periods then pops up with something spectacular. Like Diame or Koren.

At the time, I think we were right to get rid. He was a suitable squad player but hardly a first teamer. He’d obviously walk into our side now but we’ve been up and down in the PL since then with a variety of different midfielders whilst he’s been learning his trade at this level throughout that time. I don’t see where the price tag comes from other than the inflation of the TV money.

They didn't get any say in the matter. Ferguson wanted him to stay and was pissed when he left.

Edit: Based on their abilities, I'd say Chelsea messed up more letting De Bruyne go.

He gave them the perfect opportunity to break out of that trend by getting promotion and then walking early.

What happened next was the stuff of legend utter commercial incompetence.

I never looked forward to Bruce having another stab at the PL; the major **** up was giving Phelan a chance. A decent appointment would have staged off relegation.

They didn’t let him go, he refused a new deal and left against their wishes.

But by that point, the toys were already airborne and the club was being run in the interests of the shareholders. Shame, as turning a profit and cutting the purse strings to spite your face are not mutually inclusive (although it was the percentage decision from a spreadsheet perspective - the same as aiming for 20th this season and hoping for higher. Just ask Boro).

Liam rosenior wanted first team money and he was a back up to Elmo and Robertson. Shame but no choice but to let him go.
Cairney had very few supporters on here at the time, me and kemps been both of them. He couldn't get in to the team. Shame as I really liked him. But we had roko and Quin, he doesn't get in in front of them.

If they wanted him they'd have made him a decent offer. Man United could afford whatever anyone else was willing to offer him and then some, they didn't value him highly enough so essentially let him go. If they seriously wanted to keep him he would never have left.

They had every say in the matter, they offered him a **** contact and a place on the bench, then had the cheek to blame his agent for him not signing the deal.

Spot on about De Bruyne though.

Spot on, he's a solid championship player, nothing more, nothing less. We've had better and worse since we let him go but he wouldn't be the player he is today had we not released him and let him get regular first team game time.

He's also not worth close to £20 million, it's just one of those silly price tags slapped on a player to put people off, no ones been remotely interested in paying that for him and probably never will.

Indeed, I read the ten members on one page of their website, and the next page gave two more (one Lib Dem and one Conservative) although I missed the 'substitute members' tag they have attached. Much like Tim Cratchit, I stand corrected.

It wasn’t about money, he was only on £23k a week as a first team player at Juventus, his agent just convinced him not to hang around at United and that he’d get more football if he moved.

The political make-up of the planning committee really doesn’t have any bearing on the Allams meeting, let’s not get this thread locked.

You are correct, the makeup of the committee is nothing to do with the Allam's meeting and I did not suggest it was.

Didn't Newcastle offer 20m? I thought that's where the figure came from?
