    How many of todays players do you think would have survived playing against the likes of Chopper Harris or Norman Hunter to name but 2. That was also when the tackle from behind was allowed

    It was a different game then..Much slower, but also much tougher...I find myself cringing when I see old footage of some of the tackles that was deemed acceptable in those days..

    Have to agree with Mr White, it was a much different game. It however was better for all that, if tackling like that was permitted today, there would be far less simulation. And maybe the game would be easier to referee. I used to enjoy the game far more when defenders were allowed to defend, and not just push and shove. Ah the good old days.
