Liz Al-Salim spent around 10 minutes in the shop before she was told she couldn’t because of health and safety.She was told she could bring Noah and Rex’s buggy into the store, but she said her shopping wouldn’t fit along with her three and two-year-old sons. Liz shared her woes on Facebook: ‘If shopping trolleys are a “health and safety” issue, then why are they used nationwide, globally in fact for people to use to buy more than one item? THEY ARE AN ESSENTIAL for mothers with children to go shopping. Today showed that without this “tool”, my shopping trip was a hopeless waste of time for me and my children.’ ‘To just say “it’s health and safety” without any explanation is not good enough. And she didn’t offer any solution at all apart from telling me I could use a buggy. ‘In this day and age where more and more people are going online to do their shopping, the in-store experience is more important than ever before. Hmm... she goes shopping in John Lewis but takes a Sainsbury's trolley? Sainsbury's is next door so she's either already done her food shopping with the nippers and thought it would be easier to leave them in it or she's decided it is quicker than getting them into the buggy. At least she gets a few more likes on Facebook and can show all her friends the article so they can all cluck away to each other. Amazing that being asked not to use it constitutes discrimination. I am not prejudiced against trolleys. Some of my best friends are trolleys and I think that the majority of them do a lot of good work. It's when they are being used to work in areas where they have no place that I get annoyed. It's obvious they have no place in John Lewis. Brexit means Brexit after all.
