Adkins Nigel Adkins has called on his Hull City side to start defending as a unit as they aim to end the Championship’s last unbeaten home record at Cardiff City. Grosicki “I am an attacking player. I know that a lot of people ask why I don’t come back and help in defence very much – I try to help out defensively but if I am always tracking back it will have a negative impact on our offensive play. “I think there is an understanding that this way is more effective and is a way that we can achieve better results for Hull City and the fans.” Me This does not bode well.
According to the BBC's review today of the upcoming Cardiff game "....Since joining the club in January 2017, no Hull City player has been involved in as many league goals as Kamil Grosicki (13 - six goals, seven assists)". I hope that Adkins will view Grosicki as the attacking threat that he clearly is, and play him up top with Campbell. where their speed and movement and goal-scoring ability offer a real threat to opposing defenses. I think Adkins comment was aimed more at the four mid-fielders/wingers.
Grosicki doesn't have to track back to defend - all he has to do is hassle the defenders when he doesn't have the ball, it should be really easy for him, all he has to do is watch his mate Campbell at work.
Exactly As soon as we lose the ball he needs to hassle the opposition, if the ball is at the opposite side of the pitch, then track back to cover any full back pushing on and to be available as an outlet.
Exactly, Ian Rush used to be excellent at it, if you harry the defenders, it not only keeps the ball up the opposition end, but often you can press them into a mistake and a goal comes from it.
grosicki indeed should not be tracking back he needs to be managed well, he is literally the best player in the championship, and he plays internationally with the best forward in the world in lewandowski he will never change as a player, we need to play to his strengths guardiola presses high up the pitch you attack the defenders, it makes them make a mistake, it makes them stress with the ball press the ball he should be absolutely dominating the championship
In his own mind I'm sure he is the best player in the 2nd tier, whether his play shows that is another matter entirely.
Messi, Ronaldo and lewandowski are literally the best attackers in the world and all track back or press as there teams tactics dictate. If we are playing 4-4-2, or any other system were tracking back is needed, then he needs to track. If we play systems were pressing is needed, like 4-2-3-1, then he needs to do that. Unfortunately he at times fails to do that hence why he gets criticism (he is not the only culprit). In an ideal world we would have a squad that allows for us to play a system that fits our best players, but we don't so players need to adapt to the best system we can utilise as a team
