Yellow cards are a management tool for refs. They are always hoping for a opportunity to book someone early so that they can stamp their authority...if you're the player that gets booked then tough luck. Sinbins are discussed occasionally but will never really work.
The other thing that is coming in (from next season I think, but I'm not sure) is some financial rules restricting clubs from spending more than a certain % of their turnover on wages. So they thought that when this comes in that in general teams squads will be smaller, and therefore don't need 7 subs. I think they should of kept 7 and made a rule that 2 of the subs had to be u21.
As per usual the league is being reactionary rather than proactive! It was never obligatory to put 7 subs on the bench anyway. If you didn't have 7 you didn't put them on, you put on what you could. So why was there a need to discuss any changes to the subs rule? As per usual with that shower at the football league they probably thought, as they were rubbing their dirty greedy little hands, what chaos can we cause this year? How can we stop progress? Each and every one of them is a top class idiot of the first degree and should be locked away!!!!
Yes but the problem is that win bonuses have to be paid to all players that make the matchday squad so for teams that have less financial power, sometimes naming less subs is needed. These same teams argue that allowing the clubs that can afford to name 7 subs, to have such a sqaud, gives them an advantage in the match and ends up just increasing the gap between "those teams what have foreign owners and the small family-run clubs" I personally think a middle ground could be found if the 5 subs and 2 U-21 subs rule was implemented and this is something that Chris Kamara is petitioning for, I believe he already has the support of 20 or so managers from the Football League.
I think the 5 sub rule is crazy for the championship. This should of been voted for as a separate item for each league. Eg Champ Lg 1 & Lg 2 Of course the lower league clubs in lg 1 & 2 would vote against this due to finance & ability to field players etc. That means if all or the majority of Lg 1 & 2 teams voted against this as a championship club we would of been out voted. It would have been interesting to see the vote numbers in favour within the championship. Each league should of been balloted & assessed separately. Then the result would be fairer & relevant to that level. I can see alot of championship players becoming frustrated & going out on loan.
Totally agree with those who say it is a stupid rule to introduce. A massive step backwards that will only hinder youth development.
You have to understand that all new rules are introduced with the sole purpose of annoying Saints fans
Pomeymoewth said "I think 5 subs, is just about right." I'd have thought 1sub would have suited youre lot better Cant see the sin bin working, the yellow card system has a long term effect, and can make managers angry because of selelction problems, so no manager is happy for any of his player to carry yellow cards risking bans.
