The Gaffer confirmed at his press conference this lunchtime that Ayite and Kebano are out. Mildly good news is that Piazon is back training with the first team, but in the Gaffer's words, "we have to be a little careful with him".

Sunderland are obviously desperate for points. In the couple of weeks under 'Cookie' Coleman they're showing improved form, evidenced by the 0-0 draw against Wolves on Monday night and that despite playing with 10 men for the final half an hour. Cattermole (surprise, surprise) was the one sent off so he'll be missing on Saturday. Scoring has been Sunderland's main issue and the return of Aidan McGeady will be welcomed - he trades in shots from outside the box and is a main provider for Grabban up front. Coleman will play 4-5-1.

The only other thing to say about them is that, if they don't win this weekend the home fans will not have seen a victory at any time in all of 2017. Oh, oh .......

For us, Odoi will be back from suspension and presumably will slot in at LB. Elsewhere the conundrum is the usual one of the front three ,, or two even! Depends on which format Jokanovic goes for. The diamond, with Johansen as a false 9 or 10 or whatever? Frankly he's been dreadful so hope not. Or his preferred 4-3-3? In which case we'll probably start:

    .........................Bettinelli................
    ..Fredericks...Kalas....Ream....Odoi......
    .......................McDonald.......
    .............Cairney..........Norwood.....
    ......Ojo.............Fonte.........Sessegnon....

    WTF???? <laugh> <laugh>

I'm not sure where to start with all of this, but you've clearly just made it up as you go along, lol.

That red card for Lee Cattermole was his first in over 4 years (surprise, surprise). Scoring has not been our main issue, at all. We have one of the leagues top goal scorers and have scored more than all of the teams at the bottom. We are about average for the league. Conceding goals has been our been our downfall. The return of Aiden McGeady will certainly not be welcomed. He's been sat on the bench because he's simply not that good. He doesn't put graft in and he's shown a few glimpses of quality, but not much overall. McGeady is not the main provider as you put it, he has as many assists as Didier N'Dong and Lee Cattermole, this season.

Anyway, is Sessegnon now playing further up the field? Didn't he start out at LB? He's a cracking player and you have done superb to hold onto him, for now. Fredericks is another top player. From what I've seen you create width and will probably hurt us down the wings. You have pace in your team and that could cripple us.

Cottager did get the team name right though, didn't he? Credit where it's due!

Sessegnon sometimes plays in a wide attacking role, and sometimes at full back. To be honest, I think most Fulham fans think that we get the best out of him further up the pitch than at the back (that's certainly my view). Given the absences of Kabano and Ayite, coupled with Odoi's availability, I think Cottager has probably called Sess's role about right for this one.

    And the player's names !!

Copping out of course S83, but I pinched that stuff from the Sunderland Echo and some other punter up there. Good to get a proper account from a true fan though.

    Cool <ok>

How did you guys find Coleman? I'm not convinced, to be honest. He's definitely made us defensively more solid, and I think he'll pull us away from the relegation places. I think that'll be his limitations though, I'm not sure he'll be the right man to get us back to the Premiership.

I liked Coleman's attitude - he was always honest in post-match interviews, and willing to say so when we hadn't turned up rather than blame the ref or find other excuses. I felt when we let him go that his biggest fault was his inexperience, and he's got 10 or so years more under his belt now. I still rate our current manager (there are some on this board that don't), but if Jokanovic were to leave I would have been quite happy with Coleman before he took the job with you. I'd like to see him do well with you, just so long as it isn't this weekend!

Go along with that Captain. Our football under him was solid; no more, no less. Also, I don't reckon Coleman got the full backing of the owner and a fair few of our 'big names' were sold during his time.

With my current history S83, won't even attempt to hint that Sunderland's owners have a poor record in giving financial support to managers. But if your Club does get behind 'Cookie' you should be fine.

Yup, the man with the dual personality, and who cavorts around the pitch almost as much as his namesake does on the big screen.

Rather strangely the Staffordshire Whistler has ref'd a Sunderland game getting on for once a month since the start of the season. On the contrary we've only seen him once - the loss up at Burton when he was as bad as we were. Won't dwell on penalty shouts or go back over his horrendous outings with us last seasons 'cos it's spilt milk and we all know how poor he is anyway.

For the record, this season he's ref'd 20 games so far swirling out 41 yellows and 2 reds. And in a way, there lies my objections of him. He's very sparing with cards, unlike some, but simply does not control the game.

Didn't see that team selection coming. Not even sure what the formation was; guessing 5-2-3-1. The Gaffer either doesn't know what to do or he doesn't care. Whatever, the team is so unbalanced - McDonald and Norwood as the two isn't working and Johansen just isn't.

Going to give Jokanovic some benefit of the doubt and suggest he was 'basking' in the wee run of clean sheets and today that's what he was hoping for that again. Well, not with defending like this -

To be brutally honest, Jokanovic has to up his game or I think it's better that he leaves. I understand his frustrations, but I really think the team is underperforming at the moment.

Our only chance at promotion is the playoffs and that is a pretty big ask at the moment. Once we cash in on Sessegnon and Cairney, well... I think we all understand the risks.

If you have a manager with mediocre abilities you cannot expect to achieve.
As Surlyc says, if Sess & Cairney go without wise buys we will be in the s..t comes May
