So according to that fourth official guy, both saints and derby are interested in signing martyn waghorn from leicester, with saints leading the race to sign him so far. What are your thoughts on him, do we need him, how much would he cost, should we be focusing on other positions first. this may not be true, but an interesting prospect nonetheless.
the fourth official guy added that it did not mean saints were no longer interested in signing maynard, however i doubt we will pay the asking price
We need another striker but a centre forward to cover for Rickie, Martyn Waghorn is yet another "inside forward" and we already have three of these (if you include Doble). Jay Rod for me everytime
Found this on youtube, goals with his left foot, right foot and head, looks rapid and strong for someone who is 5"10. 1.5m???? When average players are going for 5m+, and he is only 21! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL2wgHTTMog Get him on the bus.
Hey........ o_lord_marian.........Welcome to the Saints bus.........Glad you decided to join us. Any problems feel free to PM either Channonfodder, st_brendy or myself. Don't forget to tell your mates about the site. It doesn't matter if they support another team or sport all are catered for on here........Enjoy.........
I think some of you put too much faith in this Fourth Offical Guy - he guessed a couple of things, but a lot of what he says doesn't come off. I don't think its any 'inside' knowledge we are interested in signing Maynard or Rodriguez. This Waghorn rumour has been doing the rounds on sites for weeks, so this is hardly inside news
He was good a couple of years ago but haven't been impressed with him since - injuries have prevented him from being at the top of his game. If we're shopping for a striker, we could do a lot better to be honest.
A mate says he is quick and lively, not too bad. I think I would prefer a target man to come in, or at least someone with a bit of presence about them. The reason being if Rickie doesnt play we only really have poacher players like Connolly and Barny. Suppose we could ply Guly up front but I think we ought to have a backup to Rickie, otherwise we will never win a header in the final third if he doesnt play. I think we have enough goals in the team until Jan - if Connolly cant play we have Barny, and if he cant, Guly. If that becomes too thin then we can address in Jan. I know hes terrible, but someone like (in the mould of!!) Vince Pericard who is happy to sit on the bench and be an option if called upon.
No doubt a he's a good player, but watching that clip of his goals he looks just like a Lee Barnard type (and we already signed up the real deal !) Maynard for me or just stick with what we have.
i think he would be good, he is quick and when injury free was grabbing a few goals the other season - but cant help feeling we can do better. but hey he may be good to get in and push us forward, give us options etc i think the majority of this squad will get assessed until Jan and we may make more signings then.
Can't say I'd be particularly overjoyed by this season. Smells slightly of making a signing for the sake a making a signing. Would rather stick with Barnard, and then Forte beyond him. I know that I keep on bringing it up, but with this new five sub rule I think we really need to be careful with who we sign. It's already impossible to include everyone within the matchday squad that we'd ideally like to, so to add anyone else into the 16, they'd have to be of real quality and really command a place in it.
Don't wanna be downbeat but leicester are apparently desperate for a new striker and if they are willing to sell waghorn to us it doesn't really say alot about the bloke,it might be that he just doesn't fit into svens plan but i say we can do a bit better.
Totally agree with you. Only advantage of this signing however would be he is a youngster & not a bad price for champo type striker. Could be an investment for the future. The sub rule kills it for fringe players & once the team ( as it is now ) starts to gel. Players are going to become frustrated. The more frustrated players we have, the more unsettling it is for everyone.
Although, Adkins does have a record of turning average strikers into great strikers (Jermaine Beckford, Martin Paterson, Gary Hooper). I like Waghorn but I do think he is a bit too similar to Barnard.
