Evening all, I have never been a fan of Mignolet admittedly, however, I was talking to a couple of Coventry supporters today and they were raving about Westwood saying he had more or less single handedly kept them in the Championship for the previous 2 seasons and he was more than capable of holding his own in the premier league. I remember seeing him one game last season and he really did stand out as something a bit special. To me Mignolet just isn't premier league quality ( just yet ) as he looks to lack confidence and his positional play is very suspect. Thoughts?
I wouldn't be against giving Westwood a crack, i rate Mig, but i still think he's a wee bit too young for the permanent number 1 spot. He was out of position on Saturday, but let's not vilify the lad, he'll be a great keeper in a couple of years, we'll likely get to see Westwood tomorrow.
Westwood has to play for me. The Mig had a poor game on Saturday and needs a lot of work on cutting out crosses.
I thi nk we are getting ourselves in a pickle, Gordon, IMO, is still far and away the best keeper we have and when fit one will have to go, none will want to be third choice. Mig is in now. Westwood is new so Gordon will go I fear, just seems wrong to sell our best keeper.
I think Mignolet is an excellent shot stopper but I could tell an opposing team his weakness - get the ball down the wings and get crosses into the box. Regardless of how good a shot stopper he is, he cannot deal with crosses and was to blame for the goal at the weekend and also for the penalty incident (he came for a ball and got caught underneath it for the penalty). Any manager who knows he's playing will tell his side to get the ball down the wings and get some crosses over. Westwood will be playing tonight and maybe on Saturday as well.
