If Lemina is fit, then it's a big mistake to leave him on the bench.

Agreed, Lemina has to be first name on the team sheet. If we don't win today then he's just shot himself in the foot with that team selection.

 

His selection may or may not be wrong, but hopefully he doesn't give a **** what the fans think. I'd rather have a manager who's his own man, than have the team picked by consensus from the stands.

As for good will, he'll only get that if he gets results.

 

Good to see JWP being considered again. Let's face it, they can't all play, so let's reserve judgement. Be interesting to see the subs as the game unfolds.

 

Lemina isn't a squad man. He's our best player. To leave him on the bench is baffling to say the least.

 

Only rational I can think for Romeu over Hojbjerg and Lemina is Hojbjerg has just played 2 games in a week for the first time in ages and Lemina may struggle with two games in a week given recent injury?

 

I was supremely confident until I saw that bench. How thoroughly bizarre. Moderately confident mode now engaged.

 

Fine. We're all baffled, but I'll let the manager pick the team.


Because the fans, let's be honest, have shown time and time again that they know **** all.

 

The manager sees them during the week. I know people believe if a player is good enough for the bench, he's good enough to play, but that's nonsense. You can be fit without being match ready, so the manager sits you on the bench and hopes he won't need you.

 

Or maybe he’s not 100% after 4 weeks out.

 

He's come off the bench the last 2 games. Surely he's fit to start now.

 

Can understand Hojbjerg not playing as it would be 3 games in a week when he hasn't played all season. Lemina I am surprised at though. If it's not tactical I can only imagine that hes not 100% still.

 

Which is fine, and perfectly possible. But if that is case, don't play him against Man City. I want our absolute best team possible out there today. Similar with PEH.

 

And having to play one player because of injury to the first choice can have a knock on effect across the team...making another player switch necessary. There can be many reasons for a manager's selection.

 

Perhaps he was fit for City, but not at his best today.

 

Tadic on the left, Sofiane in the hole and JWP on the right, with Austin up top? I like it. It makes sense.

Not such a fan of Davis in a deeper role with Oriol but clearly Mario isn’t 100% and PEH has played two intense 90 mins this week.

 

Once again, it doesn't really matter what you want. The manager picks the team, and he doesn't have to explain his rationale. He will be judged - at the end of the season hopefully - on his results, not on what either you or I think or want.

 

Not quite sure what the forte of this lineup might be. Hopefully not Jonathan.
