Our defending at set pieces was one of the main reasons we went down last year. Either if it was Silva horrendous zonal marking technique, or the fact the players weren’t good enough to see it through. A bit of both I think. Burnley at Home started it when they kept pinging it to the back stick on corners, when our best headers of the ball where at the front stick. Stupid as it may sound Jelavic was fantastic at corners.
There is no chance we're going to bring another forward in or midfielder. Up front we have Diomande, Campbell, Dicko, Keane's not far away and Abel will be back in Feb time. We only play one upfront. Same in midifield. We have Stewart, Meyler, Larsson, Irivne & Henriksen who can play the deeper role. Yes we need a full back and a centre half but unless we lose a fair few players I can't see us bringing more than that in.
It was a couple of weeks back and I can't remember exactly what he said, it was a little cryptic, but he said something about having to work with the cards he'd been dealt.
Sorry but I say again .. despite the rubbish hand he has been dealt .. he is not an organiser .. it' a fkn omnishambles at the back at times .. with hard work on the training ground we would improve .. players need to know what they have to do .. Sluts is not doing that .. lovely fella that he may be I'm afraid he is grossly out of his depth here .. his selections tactics substitutions and manner on the touchline have time and again proven that. If you had a dog that was suffering it would be put out of its misery .. sorry Sluts .. you'e a nice bloke and all that .. but your in out of your depth .. you are the weakest link
Not as bloody bad as this year. Last year there were extremely talented players playing against us. This year it is just **** defending.
last season we had Maguire, Rannochia, Davies and Dawson - Hector, Timori and Mazuch aren't as good as any of them and Dawson isn't as good as he was last season - no real surprise were leaking goals irrespective of manager
The players you quote there in Mazuch Dawson Hector etc are no worse then the majority of defenders in the Championship .. the difference is that other managers have them drilled properly to work as a unit .. we are playing like a group of individuals with no idea of a plan A B or C
Collectively, our current back 4 isn't as good as Davies and he was the worst of our options in defence...
Its obvious that our centre halves are easily bullied, since QPR, when we was 1-0 up, brought on Smith and we lost 2-1. Bristol city did the same 2-0 down brought on Djuric and we lose 3-2. Both are big clumsy forwards who just cause problems with their height. These are just 2 that come to mind, Surely we have to look at 3 at the back, with wing backs as we have any real alternatives.
Bruce was not the most talented footballer but how many times did he just get his head on the ball and get it away ? You might argue that he is exactly the type of player we need at present. Brown and Anthony Gerrard were the same, not international standard but just got the ball away and did not get bullied. I would be happy with a player with that ability in the team.
This is a good post and gets to the root of the problem; he's only now starting to realise what many of us knew - but with all of that time on his hands this really nice man did his thorough homework. But that's unkind, I know. For all of the early language praise , he does slip through some people's reality checks. Forget the blather, we're simply not seeing a good coach and manager - he's totally out of his depth , both on the pitch and with the owners. This realy is true; and not just him.
The players we have are more then good enough to finish top half of this league, the problem in sorry to say ( he is a genuinely nice guy ) is slut, he is out his depth and isn't getting the best from his players! A better manager would have them better drilled, better organised, playing as a team and showing fight!
Something wrong with the squad when he wants to play a system with two wide players but has no cover. Particularly when one is a bit of a precious prima donna who turns up when he wants to, and the other is a young lad playing his first full season and so will tire and lose form/ consistency at some stage.
at the end of the day, Ehab bought the squad and shaped the squad with little consultation, no-one tells him how to run his business and Ehab was very clear about playing with two wide players is his philosophy and the philosophy of Hull Tigers - the only disappointing aspect of all of this is Slutsky seems to roll over and lets Ehab get on with it - some managers would tell him to **** off and resign - perhaps Slutsky doesn't see why he shouldn't receive compensation for the **** he has to put up with - I blame Ehab, first, second and third - the useless ****
There's something wrong when you can say that a man who has won back-to-back-to-back Russian titles (whose predecessor failed to do that but at a different club managed to win back-to-back UEFA cups) is out of his depth in the Championship at Hull. By all means, argue that there may be a language barrier or a lack of resources available to do the job. But out of his depth? Nope, don't buy it.
Further to add, looking at Slutsky's managerial stats (See below): He seems quite consistent, with all teams, at getting his team to score around 1.5 goals a game. Before City, they typically conceded about 1 per game, whereas here it is nearly 2. That tells me, and it will come as no surprise to anyone who has watched the team this season, that we need to shore up at the back.
