Agreed, Jonas had a good game Saturday, didn't lose possession and always threatening. In the
2nd half his drag back and push around Bardsley when surrounded by 2 mackems tight on the touchline was tremendous, just didn't get the full effect because Bardsley promptly fouled him.

This lad's a really good footballer and always prepared to do his share of the work up and down the line. And once again won a free kick that led to the goal.

I too noticed Jonas more in this game, I think it's often overlooked what he does bring to the team even when his end product is missing! And thats his ability to keep the ball and take players on, it frightens the living hell out of defenders and teams normally put two men on him, freeing up space elsewhere and aleviating pressure on our own defence.

He has what is unfortunatley rather rare these days, he can beat a man and then another, exactly the type of player defenders don't want to play against.

Amazing what a bit of competition can do to players. Jonas has always done well because he has an exceptional attitude, which stands you in good stead over here. Where he has let himself down is end product and consistency. For me he has taken his game up another level in the two games this season. His workrate has been nothing short of incredible. I don't want to put too much on the competition angle either because I also think it is testament to his team ethic and the spirit within in the camp. He knew Taylor would be targeted and he had a tough ask with Arshavin/Gervinho so he made sure he helped him out. He knows further down the line he'll get a more attacking role, so has bought into what Pardew has asked. I'm really pleased with our start and it is down to the players being professional. I also have to give to give credit where credits due. I have never been too keen on a Pardew but said I'd give him the usual blind backing. And fair play it may have been an obvious one, but I've seen plenty managers go their own bizarre route when selecting a captain. The obvious one is usually the right one and it has eeked even more out of Colo. It was the right time as he has grown into the english game. Solid foundations at the back is a good way to build a team and I am of the opinion that centre halfs make the best captain. They have a presence about them because of their size, and they see the whole game from their position. Ones like Colo give a calmness to the defence too, its noticeable how less erratic Taylor has been. Injury has robbed us last year of this combination but we saw in the fizzy pop how they compliment each other.

Jonas was our best player towards the end of last season, consistently immense. Always played an important role for the team as well as exciting the crowd, but now he's adding a bit of a final product. Some of his through balls are excellent, and while his crossing still needs some work he is far more careful with possession. Class player.

Jonas is good but he's the opposite to Robert in he defends and works hard but doesn't get assists or goals enough.

When will we ever just stop picking you can't have i both ways for less than 20 million these days

Also discovered that he can be very effective "in the hole" against Chelsea last season. Another feather in his cap.
