Not really. We've had a crap time of it and although it can always be worse (Sunderland), it will never be better unless you try.

I want to emphasize this point as there really is not any money to be made out of our football club if the plan is to stay in the premier league. So it can only be a speculative move based on three scenarios i can think of:

    1. The plan is to invest heavily with the hope of future returns in either player sales or increased future revenue streams.
2.) The potential for overseas growth and thus future income is seen as a very lucrative option.
3.) Future advertisement overseas to generate more funds.

The Investment itself would cost significantly more than the club as it currently stands can generate in profits. Even if they bought the club and sold everything its not worth £300m. This is the value based on potential future revenue streams.

I JUST WANT IT TO GO THROUGH SO WE CAN MOVE ON!

My Indian neighbour Chinddashli Goodunproppa who's involved in negotiating the deal believes it will go through.

The situation with football at the moment is - if you can afford to establish yourself up the pecking order, there are significant revenues to be generated from advertising, subscribers and - critically - carriers. The next phase in football money is coming from global presence, but you need to be a decent team to feature more prominently. Man City's revenues have absolutely shot up over the last decade and none of it is player sales.

Apple, Amazon, Youtube and Netflix all have enormous pots of money and all have developed streaming services - what they've then needed is the content to provide. The EPL provides that ready-made content, with billions of interested customers, so when the deal is next negotiated there's going to be all kinds of crap thrown into the mix. We've very close to the death of 3pm Saturday as most of these services will pay whatever it takes to stream all games. From there, if your club brand is big enough, you get massive negotiation rights with these services which will fill your own coffers more. That will be the next logical step, with the threat of big clubs breaking away enough to let the EPL give, say, Man City the option to sell their rights to Apple. Or Al Jazeera...

The complication is there just aren't many around with that amount of cash who give a toss about football, nor are there many clubs left who aren't already in non-negotiable ownership. Other fans do mock, but we may well be the last club bought by big money in this league. I think Staveley knows and sees all this and wants to get in at precisely the right time. The laughable thing is Fat Mike CAN'T see any of this and, rather than fund the club properly and reap the benefits, is happy to flog it. The man is beyond stupid.

Who would've guessed a decade ago that this is what ten years with a billionaire in charge would amount to. Hardly spent on players, oversaw two relegations and twelve managerial changes, alienated / insulted / embarrassed NUFC supporters repeatedly. I assume he'll drive Rafa away sooner or later too if he doesn't sell first.

PSG were just a broken down team with history before the money, Christ remember City?
We could with ease, bollocks sponsorships seems to be the easiest route to get money in under the FFP nose for now.
I'm not saying that's what will happen, but it definitely could.

I remember chomping on me chip butty at college reading about Keegan's plans and was buzzing.
Being a Newcastle fan is a real bitch.

Nothing good, other than financial stability, has come from him. Fair enough on the first few years, but a decade of balancing the books suggests that would still be the case in another 10. Without change, Rafa will walk.

Newcastle like any other club can be transformed by money. It just depends how willing an owner is.

Man C literally just bought their way to the big time, as did PSG, as did Chelsea. If you are willing to spend £150m in a transfer window buying marquee players, then it can be done. Look at the players moving to China. They aren't doing it for the promotion of football in a new region as they would have you believe! They are doing it for the coin.

We've done it before under SJH. We got promoted under a wave of excitement ater outspending the rest of the division, and then proceeded to entice the likes of Albert, Ginola, Batty, Beardsley, Fox, Peacock, Ferdinand, Shearer, Barton, Asprilla etc. They were big sums at the time.

Chelsea did so with Roman. They just went out and bought 121m worth of talent including the likes of Cole, Mutu, Johnson, Geremi, Makelele, Parker, Bridge, Veron, Duff, Crespo, Smertin. They banged in another 100m the following season. They'd already started with likes of Lampard, Petit, Gallas before Roman even got there.

Man C went and banged out 120 odd milliion on Robinho etc. Did the same again the following year plus some, before another 143m the following year.

If you go out and bash out these sums on 8-12 players in one season and you're just buying top talents you'll shoot up the league funnily enough.

It never changes. The amount of money you spend directly correlates where you finish and who is willing to join you. if you are seen as a progressive club paying big wages, you can bust into the top echelon. The amount to do it just goes up and up is all.

I know I know its amazing stuff. I never understand why anyone would think it is about anything but money. We can and have bought our way in the past. Even Sunderland did it many moons ago. They were known as the Bank of England club.
