Arsene Wenger said Suarez was offside for Ramsey's own goal. How can it be when Suarez never touched the ball.? I agree that Arsenal were a little unlucky not to get something from the game nothing else.Wenger concentrate on the game against Udinese on Wednesday. Goodluck.
Suarez was offside for the first goal and was interfering with play so he should have been given offside. However, due to the over-complicated offside rules, he was initially offside during the first phase of play but as he was not interfering with play, he is allowed to continue and eventually scored.
The only debate is about the interpritation of "interfereing with play". He did not touch the ball and therefore he was not technically off-side. However Wenger said that his side did not deserve to lose. Now that is just crazy. His team was playing at home - we (the visitors) had as many shots, had more shots on target, penetrated their area far more often than they did ours and had 51% of possession. Now I respect his right to make the most of his sides performance but even Steve Bruce was willing to say that they were beaten by the better side!
The offside rule is there because people hated the old offside rule so it irks me when commentators moan about it. I think he wasn't interfering with play when in an offside position, therefore the goal stands. But then again, I'm bound to be as biased as Arsene Wenger so neither opinion is valid.
I think the new offside rule (in theory) is the right way to go as it gives attackers the benefit of the doubt. However, trying to officiate this and managers trying to defend against this is almost impossible. Judging if someone is offside or not is already difficult for the ref, without having to remember if an attacker was offside in the initial phase etc etc... Need to bring back the old rule - black and white.
Wenger handed two match ban by UEFA http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Arsenal-manager-Arsene-Wenger-receives-UEFA-two-match-ban-after-breaching-terms-against-Udinese-in-Champions-League-article788888.html
'My playeers, ehhh eet was ehhh not theuur fault. The referee he ehhh... I did not see the incident but ehh Miguel tells me that the referee offered him some candy and of course, of course we ehh have a young team here, we play football the riight way, the referee distracted him. Miguel kicks the ball away, he goes for the candy. Ramsey sees the candy, he wants eet also, he does not see the ball. The referees are professional.'
We were the better team overall (after PingPong got sent off anyway and had the extra man, Suarez, advantage)- so probably the score would have ended up the same anyway... but... ... Yeah, it was offside, no doubt he interfered with play because the defenders were having to compete with him for the ball- he was definately in their field of view and they were aware of him there and had to prepare for him. I'm not complaining too much though. I'm not sure Carroll's goal against Sunderland deservered to be disallowed- so for us, one goal disallowed that should have been allowed and one allowed that shouldn't have been. We're even for the season.
He probably thinks that the player is a talentless thug who kicks superior players off the park and deserves to be banned for life........oh no he plays for Arsenal so it's ok.
Carroll also scored against Arsenal but it was wrongly disallowed because he placed his hand on Koscielny's back. Koscielny overreacted and I'm pretty sure that's why his back went into spasm.
OK, so we need a couple more offside goals to be allowed to be even. Can we have them against Utd please?
He does. It's a stupid rule, but because he doesn't touch it, he isn't offside by the letter of the law. From Graham Poll in the DM: 'Arsene Wenger bemoaned his luck at what he felt was an offside goal and the analysis in super slo-mo seemed to prove he had a case. However, the International Football Association Board decreed a number of seasons ago that unless a player touches the ball then he is not interfering with play. Although Luis Suarez was in a marginally offside position, he did not touch the ball. It was intercepted by Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel, who played it off Aaron Ramsey before it rebounded into the net.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2028606/Graham-Poll-Luis-Suarez-offside.html
