You know the NH season is gearing up when the Haldon Gold Cup arrives. One of my old favourites VIBRALTO VALTAT could be interesting at 33/1 if the move to Emma Lavelle has freshened him up. Seemed to lose his way under Paul Nicholls last season. I know which one I would rather have looking after me.
Now now, she looks after horses, only reservation is hers have been running below par this season, yes that will change but not sure it will be in this race, good luck though!
If I can afford almost certainly. She seems to have lost a few horses recently (not sure why) so could do with a few new owners.
The Haldon Gold Cup looks a cracking renewal and at the prices this morning I think Forest Bihan offers a little bit of value at around 6/1. Brian Ellison's gelding looks to have really matured over the summer and the exuberant jumping errors he made as a novice look to have been ironed out as he won very impressively at Kelso on seasonal reappearance. He has race fitness advantage over a number of his rivals and could spring a small surprise here.
Barney Dwan is no value now against ballyoptic but a clear round should ensure a win , noel fehily been booked to try and ensure that ! The race after King Uther 7/1 appeals for chris gordon on his handicap debut , got to say i'm intrigued by the money for Gino Trail in the haldon gc , surely pitching too high ? but stranger things have happened , bold jumping front runner , he'll certainly ensure a proper run race . good luck to all in your selections !
's funny - normally I take a look at the forum before my jaunt to the turf accountants but I didn't today. So happens I've taken a Bihan Forest/Barney Dwan double backed with a single on Bihan Forest and a single on Mister Maestro in the 1:40 @ Wolverhampton GLA
In the Haldon Gold Cup I'm going to take a chance with Ar Mad being fit after a long lay off. He's beaten Bristol De Mai and Vaniteux and ran well, not beaten far, by Un de Sceaux in the Tingle Creek. Appears to have by far the best form so it's really down to whether he needs the run or not. At 7/1, ew with 8 runners could be the call
Nice performance from Politologue (despite nearly throwing it away) but the rain has ruined the race as a spectacle somewhat - turned into a right old slog.
He is a super jumper, might need some headgear to keep the concentration for the latter stages perhaps.
Agreed and very pleased for him. He went to Nicholls at a time where the yard was in transition, bringing in new talent after the gold era of Kauto, Denman, Big Bucks et al and they struggled for a couple of seasons. Nice to see Nicholls has stuck by him, he seems to be riding with plenty of confidence now and of course still gets some very nice rides for dad (who has also had a very good start to the season).
