I can’t think of another sporting institution that has spent so much money for so little return: and it has been five seasons now. Incredible that a club with United’s resources can deliver so little after so much ££££. 500m to launch a ball at Fellaini
I've said it before, that the idea of the "old guard," "we deserve to be top" is long since dead. The Arabs, with their bottomless pot of money, took over City because they are not yet permitted to take over the BBC/Sky Institution that is United. 'Pool was only put into the hands of those cheapskate money-grabbing Yanks because they would have gone into Administration otherwise. The immediate and medium term future of Prem footy is going to be dominated by Spurs and City, with the likes of 'Pool, United, Arsenal and Chavs playing "also rans" ahead of the next tier down. I know nothing is going to change in the mainstream media until the like of Lawro, Nevin, Thompson, Merson, and all the other myopic United/'Pool loving tossers have either retired or died.
You probably need to win something before making that sort of claim. Even a League Cup would be a start.
Man United's problem is they've picked managers terribly. They have a good squad and could win titles (and will win titles again) but look at who they picked post Fergus. David Moyes (who would have predicted he would be the best post Fergie manager when he got sacked). LVG. 2 left backs for every position. Giggs the caretaker, with the managerial skill of a school caretaker. Moaninho, always requires mega spending where ever he goes buying all the obvious overpriced household names that have passed their prime and ignoring the talent that will peak next. Jose's ego eclipsed his ability years ago and now is a major handicap. That said, despite Mourinho, their mega budget year after year has ensured they are still in the hunt. If they win this year it will be despite Mourinho not because of him. Still, just like City showed after a number of years of sugar daddy money, throw enough money at a team and eventually you'll win. United will eventually win again because they have the same limitless cash to keep throwing at the problem.
To give Mourinho his due, he didn't have a bottomless pit of money at Porto and did build a side that was very successful and played some very attractive football ... from then you are correct ... he's been used to having heaps of money and able to buy just about whoever he wants ... but the football fare is often mundane due to the fear of losing ...
I'm quite enjoying Spurs mixing it up but to suggest you lot and City are the future is brave bordering on ridiculous.
The obvious difference is that City have enough money to keep their stars ... whilst Spurs might; Kyle Walker's departure and Danny Rose's alleged mutterings demonstrates that it's not guaranteed and it would hardly come as a surprise to anyone if Alli or Kane were to move on either in January or in the summer ... if Spurs don't win silverware this season, that possibility increases markedly as far as I see it ...
