Evra was sent off before the Marseille match even started tonight, he was supposed to be on the bench.

He kicked a fan in the head during the warm up.

Somehow Marseille were allowed to start with 11 players.

 

Why wouldn't they be if Evra was supposed to be on the bench

 

When someone gets sent off the team usual goes down to 10 men. Don't see why it should be different even if he was on the bench, there is no punishment for his lack of discipline. Marseille should have been made to start with 10 or only been allowed 2 subs during the match.

 

Only problem is if Marseille still fielded a full bench

Point I was making is that the rules are BS, not what the rule is. Red card is a red card. If it had happened during the first minute of the game Marseille would have had to play with 10 for 89mins. Why should it be different if it happens before a game even for a player on the bench... zero punishment other than 6 players on the bench instead of 7 (big ****ing deal!)

The red card is to punish the player not the team, that is why he will probably be banned for the next 3 games also.

And I should think Evra will get longer than 3 games, if he doesn't there's something wrong.

 

Maybe Mourinho would be less of a **** if his team was forced to take a player off every time he was red carded

 

It'd teach clubs to control their side of field actions. You'd effectively eradicate 4th offical abuse or Managers walking onto the pitch if there was some tangible punishment for it.

I'd say they should be allowed to stay with XI since Evra wasn't pay off the starting line-up. However, they should have been restricted to two subs imo

The team get punished when a manager gets sent off so makes sense of there is a consequence for substitute being dismissed

 

Suppose it's more akin to a player getting shown the red card for something after the fully time whistle has blown.

And wasn't the bench reduced by one even though the amount of subs remained the same.
