Can't help liking Wright. Grammatically challenged he may be, but better than the bland waffle you get from the others.

I heard this story about Wrighty on Talksport

During the WC game against the Scotch at Hampden when England scored to go 0-1 up, Wright got up in front of the big window to celebrate and the Scotch crowd outside weren't happy.... then the Scotch equalised and Wrighty went to the window again to view the joy of the locals and got abuse ... then Scotchland went 2-1 up and the locals outside the big window gave IW dogs abuse... real dogs abuse!!... then when England equalised in the 96th minute IW went to the window again to get even worse abuse but this time he held his arms out wide and started shouting "come on then who wants some"....... at the end of the game (to everybody's surprise) IW went to the window again in a more conciliatory manner and was widely applauded by the Scotch.

He does wear his heart on his sleeve IW.

I once went to an England Vs Scotland game at Hampden, which England won 1-0 with a goal by Steve Coppell 5 minutes from the end when Alan Rough dropped a cross. I went with a English friend who wore an England scarf and stood in the middle of the Scotland fans. At the end many of them came over to shake his hand and say "Well done".

Cannot say the sweaties were so friendly when we beat them 2-0 up there in '89.

    Never again.

Why don't you like Robinson? Is it because he is a Scouser. Or is it because he talks too much. You can't deny that he is doing a good job.

I like Robinson, and as a he is a scouser, that is no mean feat.

Robbo can talk a lot of nonsense at times, but I choose not to watch his press conferences etc as result of that.

I think it's possible to respect or even admire the work Robinson is doing, without liking the man.

I'll admit Charlton are doing better this season so far than I thought possible, and there does seem to be a genuine strong team spirit (as far as we can tell).
Duchatelet could still pull the wheels off in January, but automatic promotion is looking like a reasonable possibility right now, not just a pipe dream.
Credit to Karl Robinson for that, and credit to his coaching team.

But I have no time for the man himself. All this 'fans' hero' stuff and the heart on his sleeve looks as fake to me as anything KM ever came out with, and he will never be a Charlton man in my eyes, I don't care what he achieves under RD. He's getting a very difficult job done and I respect him for that. And that's where it ends.

But how can you not like or loath him if you have not met him? It is illogical. I think a large part of not liking the Manager is because he is serving under Duchatelet.

He's doing as good a job as is possible under Roland. This involves talking bollox at times to defend the conditions he works under. I can't say I take to him, but if the take-over goes through it would probably be too risky for new owners to replace him.

    Way OTT lardi.
He certainly irritates quite a few of us with his interview style and long winded media comments......I tend not to listen to most of his waffle. He often talks in sound bites and says what he thinks us fans want to hear.......but it doesn’t make me want to dislike the fella........after all, I’ve never met him and there’s good vibes about him emanating from the dressing room......so that’ll do for me.
But to say you hate and have no time for the bloke is pretty weird if you ask me.
It also doesn’t help that he has a rather whiney drawling type scouse accent, which kind of irritates me a bit......and maybe others as well, but that’s more my problem than his to be fair.

Where did I say I hate him?

All I said was I have no time for him.
He's a professional doing a job. I don't want to like him and I don't want to be his mate. He signed up to work for Duchatelet in full knowledge of what has happened at Charlton. He is Duchatelet's man -- a fully paid up member of the regime even if he pretends sometimes that he isn't -- and I want no more to do with him than I would want to do with Duchatelet himself, or Meire.

I did say that I respect what he has achieved so far, and I said credit to him and to his coaches.
Indeed I'll go further and say that if KR gets Charlton promoted this season, it will be a greater (as in more difficult) achievement than what Chris Powell managed to do in 2012.

I will be as happy as any Apologist if Charlton win promotion this season. I believe promotion back to the Championship offers the best chance of RD selling the Club. But even if we go up in May, I still won't consider Karl Robinson a hero, or a Charlton legend, or somebody I want to be mates with.

For me the fact that KR chose to work for Duchatelet is not a large part of the reason I don't like him, it's the entire reason.
RD does not care about Charlton Athletic. He does not want to know its fans or communicate with them or have anything in common with them.
Fair enough - no surprise then that I don't want to know him or like him.
The same goes for Katrien Meire, and the same goes for Karl Robinson.

Robinson differs from Duchatelet and Meire only in that he is doing a very good job at present, in difficult circumstances. But they are circumstances that he chose to accept when he joined the Club, and he chooses to continue to accept them every day.
If he does his job and gets us promoted I'll be very happy. But he will still mean nothing more to me as a Charlton fan than does Jose Riga, or Bob Peeters, or Guy Luzon, or Karel Fraeye, or Russell Slade. They are all RD's men, all members of his regime, all jointly responsible for what he has done and is still doing to Charlton Athletic.

If the wheels suddenly come off this season and Charlton crash out of any promotion possibility, Robinson will be torn to pieces by many Charlton fans including some on this forum, and in stronger terms than you will ever find me using.

One thing to consider with KR - his career never got going due to a serious injury, so unlike a lot of managers he doesn’t have a nest egg to sit back on. A lot of managers when they lose their job can afford to take a few months off, but I don’t think KR was given that luxury.

Snr hated Robinson when he was at MKunts for talking bollocks, managing a fake club and being a general bellend.
Robinson hasn't changed since then and comes across as a bit of a Brent tbh so I can see why Snr dislikes him so much.

For me, he tries a bit too hard to be loved by the fans and I'm not keen, he's done a good job so far though.

I might add Trevor Sinclair to this list if the reports of him assaulting a police officier are true. Outrageous.

I think it was Steve Claridge just said on 5live that the Premier League looks the way it ought to look, with the Big6 in the top 6 spots. "No imposters" as he put it. Absolute numpty. He must have cried into his cornflakes when Leicester won the League. He might be celebrating 5 English teams in the knockout stages of the so-called Champions League, but if you take Spurs out of the equation there are very few English players in the other 4 teams, and no British manager. Why would anybody want football to be as predictable as this?
