Nice one Wubba My commiserations over whatever happened to your family to force them to move from Shepherds Bush to Camden.
Brilliant post, one of the best I've seen. And, a fair reflection on how most of us on this forum feel. The fact that we stumble from one chaotic episode to the next is part of the club's charm. Glory hunters we ain't!
If we have to pay a 40 million quid fine, would that count against our FFP allowance for that year? You'd hope not.
According to Roller it doesn’t. Neither does spending on academies and estate. That really would be a bizarre form of torture.
The whole FFP thing is becoming a bit surreal. I get the feeling that the EFL from comments made by the CEO that they obviously don't want a "member club" to go to the wall but if they follow their current course that's is what's likely to happen. Also the EFL can't be seen to back down and it totally undermines their stance to date and having initially imposed a fine of somewhere north of £40m to accept less makes them look weak...... They are in a catch 22 situation and the club are in a no win situation as it's essentially admitted breaching the FFP rules when it put the "Exceptional Item" of £60m in the 2013/14 accounts. This will drag on and on and on and the only winners will be the lawyers as usual. Maybe the EFL should say that they realise the FFP rules at the time were unworkable but they didn't expect any club to breach the levels by so much, then accept the club can't possible fund such a draconian fine and say impose a 2 year transfer embargo and a manageable fine. They save face, the club doesn't go bust and everyone moves on.......
Whilst there are hundreds of millions up for grabs with the redevelopment of Old Oak I can't see TF et al pissing off the local council by doing a bunk and leaving the club without a paddle. Who would want to get involved in a project with a group that does that?
Annoyingly good. I was still wallowing in the unfairness of it all but the facts state we're bang to rights really. The whole thing is rotten to the core though especially when the Chelseas and Man Citys of the world ruin the game, within the rules, and are left to do as they please.
But who says footy is logical? 90 odd teams in the four divisions, I suspect the vast majority aren't financially viable unless some some dreamer/ madman is pumping cash in. The chairmen obviously get sucked in like we do!
The rules are the rules. However it does seem harsh on owners who put-up for their mistakes and clearly put in loans to bring down the debt (which surely was the whole point of FFP on the first place to ensure clubs didn't become over-burdened with debt). But it seems the EFL wants them to cough-up more money (or is it perhaps their own personal greed that wants the monies that will just make things more difficult for some clubs). The current owners are not going to be able to offload the club with such a possible debt hanging over the club. So they are going to have to find an end-game with the EFL idiots who seem intent on digging their heels in and making an example of a club rather than agreeing a solution in the spirit of FFP. It would be different if the owners didn't/couldn't have paid for their sins and sent the club into liquidation or even closure - but they haven't, and instead have worked hard at trying to bring the club into a manageable position. Premiership clubs seem to disguise the pumping in of money through 'friendly' 'sponsors' while our owners appear to have been transparent and paid up for the error of their ways.
I'd put up with Loftus road being called air Asia stadium, or the mittal arena for 3 years for a £40000000 sponsorship deal
The rules were also to stop clubs gaining an unfair advantage over the competition through unsustainable spending. Which is exactly what we did to get promoted (just) the second time. If the system worked properly it would mean that clubs with a higher turnover/income would always have an advantage, but I can’t see how you can change that (and in the old days when that was the case little QPR managed to finish second in the First Division) and that the vast majority of clubs would have to focus on developing their own talents, managing wages, and balancing spending and income on transfers. Sounds good to me.
Football is a business, but my point "not logical" is that TF is a top businessman who over night became a complete mug.
