Fair play to Newcastle United, I thought they might have come forward by now. They've been getting abused by Johnson for years but have kept their mouths shut and not gone to the Police about it

Well, we are different to your club, I accept that. We won't reemploy Johnson when he gets out of jail, you know, like you did with Graham Rix after he went to jail for sleeping with a 15 year old girl.
The police have said that they met up with Sunderland and told them what he'd been accused of. That doesn't contradict the club's statement and I'm not sure why they're making this public, anyway. Seems like an odd thing for them to be doing, really. There's no suggestion that he's a child rapist either, is there? That's not what he's been accused of.
Exactly. That kind of Daily Mail'esque emotive language is a nonsense in relation to this case. He wasn't hanging round the school gates seeking to prey on kids, nor was there anything in the court evidence that suggested his internet history etc showed that he had any form of fixation on young girls. He was guilty of being an opportunist idiot, engaging in sexual activity with a consensual girl who was a year off being legal. He did so knowingly, so deserves all he gets, but the 'child rapist' tag is ridiculous, as he never had penetrative sex with her and there was no suggestion of whatever happened being against the will of the girl involved.
The will of the girl was a bit irrelevant to the charges though, to be honest. She wasn't old enough to consent to anything anyway, though it would've been worse if he'd forced her into anything, obviously. He's a dick and he deserves to be punished, but I'd like to see him labeled correctly, just as I would any other criminal. He didn't have sex with any children, nor did he force anyone into having sex with him, so he's not a child rapist or any other kind of rapist, either. Child molester? Closer to the truth. Sex offender? Definitely? ****ing idiot? No argument.
How come Johnson is going to get around 5 years when Rix, who actually had sex with a minor, got 12 months?

He only served six months, too. Had to spend time at Arsenal and Chelsea before that, so maybe the judge counted that as time served? They didn't consider it prostitution either, for some reason. Ridiculous decision.

If he had been 18 there would have been no charge at all, and cougars go after boys of 16 & 17 who have a physical and emotional maturity equal to a girl of 13/14. To be fair on Rix, he met her in an over 21 club and did her that night, a trainspotting special.
This. If all he's been found guilty of is putting his hand down a 15 year old's pants, talk from the judge of him looking at 4 or 5 years inside is utterly ridiculous! There are muggers and scum-bag burglars who get community service. I am not condoning what Johnson did, but there are blokes who beat up their wives and who their kids who don't get that kind of sentence.
Calls for an inquiry within Sunderland FC on what they knew and when they knew it and the actions they took (or should have taken). The "we were waiting to find out if he was pleading guilty" isnt much of an argument. Imagine the BBC using that excuse with Jimmy Saville? Would the public have accepted that?
