Sunderland host Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship Last time out Sunderland drew with Brentford and Bristol City beat Crystal Palace in the Carabao cup. City bounced back from a league defeat at home to Leeds by securing their first League Cup quarter-final since 1989 by beating Crystal Palace 4-1 on Tuesday. The Robins having faced three Premier League opponents in the Carabao Cup this season can now look forward to a home tie with Manchester United. Sunderland are grinding out results having drawn their last three games scoring six goals but are still unable to keep a clean sheet. The Black cats will be looking to make the most of a run of home games before facing local rivals Middlesbrough. Simon Grayson: "We defended well and had a good shape. You have to defend well against Brentford and for large parts we did. We were decent going forward but we still have to put a few more of the ingredients together. There were signs that we are looking like a decent team. "We are three games undefeated and we are making progress. We've now got back-to-back home games to build on that, so this performance and the character we showed will give us a lift." Lee Johnson: "It is a Premier League stadium. Sunderland are a team in transition. I'm sure, given time, Simon Grayson will probably get a promotion with Sunderland. But at the moment they are very low on confidence and they're in the bottom three." "They're a wounded animal as far as we're concerned. Their forward line is very, very dangerous and will give any team is this division problems." Match facts: This will be the first league meeting between the two sides since a second tier clash in February 1999 when the Black Cats won 1-0 away from home. Bristol City haven't won away at Sunderland since March 1992, winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Andrew Cole and Wayne Allison (x2). Aiden McGeady has scored four Championship goals this season, with all four coming from outside the box - more than any other player in the division has managed. Jamie Paterson has created more chances than any other player in the Championship this season (33), registering five assists. Sunderland have fallen behind in 10 of their 13 league matches this season, drawing four and losing six of those games. The Black Cats haven't won from behind since November 2016 (2-1 away at Bournemouth), falling behind in 30 games since (D6 L24). James Vaughan has scored three goals in three league games against Bristol City. Defender Paddy McNair is still recovering from knee ligament damage. Bristol City should have Korey Smith (hamstring), Nathan Baker (knee) and Bobby Reid (ankle) all back fit again. Famara Diedhiou (knee) is doubtful after going off in Tuesday's EFL Cup win over Crystal Palace. The Senegal striker, who has scored six goals so far this season, had a scan on the injury earlier this week. A group of City supporters have set themselves the challenge of cycling from Ashton Gate to the Stadium of Light in aid of the Bradley Lowery Foundation. Lee Johnson’s side travel to face the newly-relegated Sunderland next weekend (October 28th, 3pm), and eight supporters are using it as an opportunity to raise funds for the registered charity. The five-day trek will begin on Tuesday, before City’s Carabao Cup fourth round tie with Premier League Crystal Palace, and end ahead of the Sky Bet Championship kick-off in the north east. Bristol Sport Foundation and Bristol City Community Trust have shown their support towards this worthwhile cause, and the riders will subsequently be bucket collecting at tomorrow’s game with Leeds United to help them reach their £5,000 target. The bucket collectors will be spread throughout the concourse and all donations will be gifted to the Bradley Lowery Foundation. Good luck to all the riders: Craig Porter, Chris Giles, Nick Duff, Wayne Lloyd, Dean Webb and Lee Rackam, and support drivers Tony Wilkins and Robert Tyler. https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/bucket-collection-in-aid-of-bradley-lowery-foundation/
I like your predicted team. It'll be interesting to see if Cattermole plays because even his biggest fans think he's a waste of space at the moment and Grayson has also acknowledged that him and Ndong together doesn't work and Ndong is the better player. I'd like to see Wilson back in the side I think him and Kone is our best CB pairing.
I like the side set-out. Time to drop Catts and start on the front-foot. Oh to score first... Hats off to the BC fans doing the bike ride
I agree about dropping Cattermole, he's costing us at the moment. It's one thing having the right attitude but 'leading by example' is what we need at the moment. He was caught out for Brentford's first goal and we can't afford a start like that in another home game. I disagree about dropping Steele. He jad a decent game, at Brentford, and made some good saves ..... the defence let him down, not the other way round.
He did absolutely - but he was to blame for their second - no doubt - he was stood that side and anticipated an "over the wall" - as a keeper, if you set your wall up and it's beaten you hold your hands up - had he stood still it was a simple save to make and stops the oppo getting their heads up. That said - I've also seen Petr Cech and Courtois do that and be beaten so he's in decent company. I probably wouldn't drop him either - but for home games, the way our crowd has been, he's very nervy. Agree about Catts as well (what's that.... Marcus agrees that Cattermole should be dropped... Get this page bookmarked quickly) @Brian Storm I was sure I heard Grayson say that Honeyman has been training as a winger. Said that Gooch was a centre forward in the same interview. Might be wrong mind as I can't find it now!! I'll be there on Saturday - then running back to my car before driving to a caravan park 30 miles north of Hull for a gig!! Commitment at it's best
Catts and Steele should be dropped for this one. Grayson needs to go balls to the wall and attack. ---------------------Ruiter---------------- Matthews--Konè--Oshea--Oviedo -----------Honeyman--Ndong-------- Mac-----------Watmore----Mcgeady -------------------Grabban----------------- 4-4-2 with the ball with Watmore pushing up alongside Grabban. 4-5-1 when defending. Watmore and Mcmanaman both graft to help out the
Cattermole or no Cattermole, it doesn't matter which 11 you put out, it will be the same result as it always is - a home loss for Sunderland. Suck it up Nacho - you're going down, maybe you might win a home game in League 1 though!!
To be fair two ex keepers commented on his Brentford performance and they both said he didn't bother adjusting himself or the wall after the Brentford players joined the wall He set himself up to be beaten at that side. It's not good enough Smug. He's a very very poor keeper. But then, so is Ruiter.
Long time to be as bad as you though. How long is it have you been out of the Premier League? 13 years? ****ing nobody Women from Leeds don't wash their fanny either.
Watmore in the hole? Nah thanks. I want my quick mobile players in mobile positions I like the OPs team.
