There's more to the season than the derby's. You'd be stupid to get rid of Bruce if he loses both the derbys but still has the ability to give you guys a solid top 10 finish. And it was far from a shadow of the one you played last year. I don't know why you keep saying that. Yes, Carroll played, but he didn't even score. Cabaye is already better than Nolan imo, Simpson has improved, Krul is better than Harper, and S Taylor and Colo have formed a formidable CB partnership which we didn't have last year. We've improved. Trust me. You faced some top players today.
Cattermole was playing well but he was also attracting lots of discussions with Webb and his tackling was getting worse. Before he was sent off, I said he should have bee took off and not just 3 at the back but with Larsson and Richardson moved to the positions they would be more comfortable in, as attacking wing backs, where Larsson in particular has played for club and country previously. Colback (who out shone Catts today IMO) would have been well capable of holding the central ground against a hapless Tiote (how bad was he today BTW) and a striking option and partner for Gyan may have helped his game too. We were abject 2nd half and something had to be done. That team I suggested would have been a better attacking unit than the one labouring for the 50 mins that Bruce thought about and it still left another substitute to throw the kitchen sink on for the last 5 if needed.
We carved you open on several occasions today down the flanks and through the middle which we couldn't do last season in both games. If we had taken one or two chances, this discussion may not be taking place at all but we didn't because we lack a natural poacher. However, my point is that teams with natural strikers will score handfuls against you which wasnt the case last year either. If you really think you have a good team based on today's game, your in for more heartache than me this season believe me. You have average players and 1 or 2 really good ones. Coloccini was a rock today and MotM for you which tells you something but Tiote looked very poor (one season wonder perhaps), Cabaye looked good, Obertan was ****e (no shock there) and Barton nowhere near as influential as when he had Nolan alongside him. Steven Taylor is a plank and your 2 full backs were caught out several times (more so Simpson). Krul is a good keeper mind and old Amadonkey, whilst no world beater, sticks to his task and works his arse off up front. Better than last year? No way. You're in for a rocky ride if you really think so.
Cest you have lost it, I can't believe what your saying. You of all people should know where we have come from, where we were. Bruce has taken us to the next level and to be honest when you insult him by calling him names you just insult the whole club. We lost today get over it. I have been the bigger man, you don't know the grief I have had all night tonight at work, everyone is giving it me. I still firmly believe we will have a good season and we will finish above them and Bruce will take us on wards and upwards. We cannot go back in time repeat it so we must move on. You want to sack Bruce? look what happened when we sacked Reid? do you want a Wilkinson again? We are Sunderland not Barca, I know where we have come from and I know where were going. Let the scum win the day, together we will win the war, just like last season.
Why use a useless halfwit like Wilko to bolster your argument? I'm talking about getting Martin O Neill in who is available, WOULD come in the EPL and wouldn't be a Wilkinson appointment at all. Bruce has had a chance to impress and failed. The non sell outs have shown what the majority think of his football. I was fully ion board when he came and supported the move but he has lost my support fully now. You say we have improved but have we really? We have been involved in 2 successive relegation battles under Bruce and only scraped 10th spot with the final kick of the season. Had that Wigan game at home gone awry a few weeks earlier, we may well not be so happy with Bruce as some of us seem to be tonight. If Mick McCarthy had been given the financial support Bruce has enjoyed, would he have been any better/worse? Would Wilkinson? We are still just a plodding up and down team with little consistency to our team; squad or play. We have players playing out of position all the time, no strikers and no left flank at all. We are not going to do any better than last season without a recognised striker and Gyan isn't a 20+ striker anytime soon either, nor is Sessegnon. Bruce has had 5 transfer windows to improve us and its no better today. We were abject. Whether he threw the games or whether he is just tactically hapless, either way to be honest, he no longer has my support. I dont call my fellow fans for sticking with him and if there were no credible alternative I may well still be there with you but in MoN there is a hugely credible and available alternative and I'd sooner see him as our manager than Bruce. Inside 3 years, he had Villa pushing top 4 places and given our foundations now, I reckon in 2 years he could well do the same for us. I dont question Bruce's buys this summer - I think we have recruited well so far despite the lack of Judas replacement - but its the way those players will be utilised that I question. I think O Neill would get far more from the current squad than Bruce ever will and I'm just sorry to say I dont think that a change will come unless we spiral into a run of defeats early on, that will force the issue and change some fans views. I cant see us as a top 10 team this season at all and fear another Brucie slump could well finish us off this time round.
From what i seen today, i think we'll finish ahead of Newcastle. I can honestly say i'd prefer to finish higher in the table than Newcastle than win the derby games against them.
So what did you see today that makes you think we will do well this season. I saw a Newcastle team that will definitely be in the relegation stakes beat us at home? We may well finish above them come May but that may well be them at 17th and us at 16th because I didn't see a top 10 Sunderland team or performance today in any shape or form? Finishing above Newcastle isn't our goal, finishing above Everton and Villa is and we will struggle to do so this season despite Everton's customary poor start. Villa have goals in them we dont.
Your talking rubbish again, failed to impress??? finishing 10th with almost a net spend of 0. As for attendance were in a recession or had you not noticed, My job is tough because we rely on people spending money, I cannot afford to go every week and I can no longer afford a season ticket, its tough for everyone but we are still pulling in bigger crowds that clubs with catchment areas twice our size. I could argue with you all night Cest but whats the point you have such a twisted view about the Mags its pointless, all you care about is 2 games a year. I care about the bigger picture and it seams most on here agree with me. They won the day but we will win the war.
I thought we were comfortably the better team for large periods of the game. It happens all the time in football, one team dominates but just can't get the goal and ends up losing. It's no reason to write off our season. Cest, your mood changes from game to game.
Good post Cest, From a fellow Safc supporter, I don't give half a ****e what the scum bags were like. What I think (sorry know) is that we, Sunderland were foooking rubbish. 99.9% of this was the fault of 1 SB. 2 defensive midfielders at home to a (probable) 13-16 placed team. As you say Larsen out of position, Richardson, Out of position (**** in every position by the way. and by ****, I mean fooking ****) Elmo, thought fook all of him last season and NOTHING will chane my mind. Again SB, No tactics in anyway shape or form. Couldn't change a fooking light bulb. Walking away from the match. the first thing I was going to do when I walked throught he door was CXL my direct debit. But thinking I have until October so will give it one more chance. One mind. FOOOOKING ONE. The Bruce is history. (to me)
You want the proof that you're wrong Cest? Look at his reation when Gyan bundled in the (luckiest and most annoying I've ever seen) goal at SoL last year. You simply can't act that, his emotions were real, and he was delighted that you'd been saved from humiliation.
Bloody hell people must learn not to get ahead of themselves. Predicting a relegation battle after one bad game? Last week took a superb point off Liverpool away. A Liverpool that went on to beat the Arse comfortably at the Emerates. Did that result make us great? No. Therefore yesterday, however painful does not make us ****.
It gets to something when I read a post and I am agreeing with what newcastle fans are saying, you have got to. Well done Chappaz, Cheik the room, etc for your sensible posts, I have never seen such ****e comments than thoose from you Cest. "Square pegs in round holes" where was this comment last week when that team got the draw at Anfield. If Bruce had have changed the team and we still lost I'm sure you would have been on here with comments like, why drop Colbeck after a great game last week, why Ferdinand left back, he's no left back, why drop Elmo, it's plain to see we have no one with height in the team. I could go on and on. I think in yours and other eyes because of his Newcastle connections he will get this everytime we have a bad result. Get the blinkers off, we have had some great players/managers with Newcastle connections, Stokoe, Moncur, Ron Guthrie, Lee Clarke even and I'm sure if I had the time I could think of some more. But to suggest that he's deliberatly throwing the games against the mags, have a word with yourself. What happened to Bruce having till Christmas, now he's got the next 3 games because we lost to Newcastle. This "Geordie" has improved us each year and we are only two games into the season, as proved last year league placings arn't decided until the last game of the season. Calling for him to be replaced with Martin O Neil, I will leave that argument for another day, as no doubt you will bring this up after the next bad result, as you normally do. We didn't take our chances yesterday in the first half and didn't create enough in the second half, it's not the first time and will not be the last. Hopefully when you have calmed down and re-read your comments you will realise how stupid these comments are, worse than your post about Nzog and Defoe being at Seaham Hall or wherever. You disappeared for a while after that post, lets hope it happens this time
You Bruce in brigade piss me right off, if your happy with what he's doing then go ahead and enjoy, I'll leave you to it as I've had enough. I'll leave you with stats from the last eleven home games. P 11 W 1 D 1 L 9 Enjoy
Take it youv'e been on another site to get them stats, as iv'e already seen them... What about the stat where we finished 6th on away form...
