Afternoon all. I’ve read a few comments & threads over the past few days/months, they point out how much quieter the forum is becoming. Now we’re never going to compete with OTIB, which if you are unaware is one of the busiest and most popular football forums in the country. Most of us made the move from bbc 606 so we’ve “known” each other for a long time. I forget how long we’ve been on this site for and in the beginning we were booming. There were 3/4 new threads a day and each post was very popular in responses. Now it seems we may get 1 new thread every other day which is usually quiet depending on what the topic is about. Now then I ask you the question and please respond if you are a member. What has changed in your opinion that has made the forum slow down? After all it is about Bristol City so it’s not like we don’t have anything to talk about daily. I’ve been guilty of being quiet. I usually only post on the LPTPW thread as that’s more of a general chat post where we talk nonsense. There are many factors to me not posting. I’m self employed and very rarely come on here. I’m not particularly interested in the games anymore as I always forget about them. Also a lot of the threads tend to be.... pointless/uninteresting. So I understand that life can get in the way of posting and seeing as we have about 1/20th of the posters OTIB has its more likely that it will be quiterer on here. I’m still a MOD and will continue to do what I can, when I can, so it’s why I ask you to help me. What do you think needs doing to improve this forum? So as I said above, if you’re a member please do comment on what you think should happen in order to make this forum more popular. Surprisingly we’re still the 6th most popular forum on Not606. We’re ticking over but we can improve, if you want us too..
As a separate post, I feel there are far to many games/competitions going on. Including this sticky post, we have to scroll down 10 threads to get to new posts. This might be just me but I’d much prefer having important threads only as being stickied. Is this something you agree on or do you want to keep things as they are?
I am more than happy to abandon the games /competitions if that is your decision mate, they are time consuming and take a lot of effort, if causing a blockage and the members require it, let's take them down, you tell me and it will be done, just say the word.
I didn't mind the odd compo, particularly if it was interesting and over the season, but some did get a bit diverse and there ended up far too many. Not wanting to stop anyone else's fun, if they enjoy that, its just that I don't find them interesting and like you said, need to scroll half way down the page to get to a comment. We cant and shouldn't all think the same, that's the whole idea of a forum and I do enjoy seeing opinions. I am happy to comment without ever letting it get personal too. I do enjoy the forum. I haven't always got the time but I Just prefer it if we could be talking about what is important going on.-
I don’t want to stop the games, just maybe take them off of the sticky section. It would then be down to the OP to keep the thread towards the top of the forum. That way when ever there is an important/interesting thread that is stickied it won’t be lost
Too much slagging of each other on here,i spend more time on the Bristol City till i die facebook page at present. Much more diverse. nearly 10000 members on there. As for OTIB many of us original lot don't bother on there any more,it is even worse for slagging one another off.
I have been a participant since the BBC days and will continue as long as I can, but I have noticed that many of our original posters have disappeared never to return. Can you not do a blanket PM to all listed contributors asking their opinions as to why the missing have left? I briefly tried OTIB but left quickly because I preferred the serenity of 606 and even though the personal attacks on our site has increased I prefer to stay where I am. Some threads do tend to go on way past their best before date and eventually end up being a minor nuisance in that they clog up the first page of the site. I will never be a supporter of the main social platforms (Twiiter/Facebook) that look to be the future access points for social chat sites because I find them too invasive and annoying. Keeping the interest alive and well looks to be a problem based on the number of posts and replies that we get and I'm not quite sure what can be done by the board to regain the mojo we had when it was by the BBC when I believe we were one of the most active sites. Good luck guys and let's just ask all of our contributors to spread the message because the thought of not606 disappearing is not good and I have no intention of joining any opposition sites where the banter is not my kind.
I find that face book page just bickering, that NS bloke talks dribble (only joking bozo) but that’s my opinion of it. As to this forum, I too find the games in sticky post annoying but then I don’t play the games. So my opinion can’t really count on that one. I did like them but they got too confusing for me when I’m home and relaxed. I don’t like this divide of pro LJ and anti LJ and tend to find sniping a bit much. But then I’m very opinionated and get involved myself so can’t complain too much.
I agree with the sticky threads, far too many sometimes just for the games, I think we should sticky the ones with fixtures that same week so for example unstick the Fulham predictions threads and stick the thread on the week of that fixture and so on, just remove a bit of clutter I think and saves it from being at the top for weeks on end.
Lads there have been complaints about too many games / competitions happening on our forum, too many being stickied and occupying top end space on the forum, in the interest of balance and keeping in line with apparent thinking I am bringing to an end the games I have been organising today.. We could keep the games running but I can't be assed bumping them up the page all of the time for every ones attention, I have got other things to do. I thank all of you that have taken part in the games but we must move forward... cheers...wiz.
Started reading the forum daily when it was part of BBC, & this forum since its inception , only joined recently , partly because it has become quieter recently & felt it needed all the support it could get. I wouldn't pretend to have the answer as to how to regain its popularity, as inver suggested would it be possible to pm previous posters?. Something I've noticed some other teams forums do is invite fans from their next opponents onto their forums to discuss the upcoming game, I believe Leeds did this to us before last Saturdays game , just a thought.
I was enjoying the BBC prime predictor by Wiz and winning it for once? I'm not usually one for games as I keep forgetting to post, everyone seems to be taking everything very personally lately?
I don't post nearly as much as I used to on here. From a personal perspective, I think the Forum is a lot quieter because the Manager we have has divided the fans into 2 distinct camps. There is one group that wants him in and can see nothing wrong with anything he does, and the other group simply wants him out/are still unsure. Basically I got fed up with reading the constant bitching and decided not to respond as much as I did before. The whole situation made me apathetic towards the club and the way it is sometimes run. He wouldn't have been my choice as Manager and I'm still not 100% convinced by him, despite having seen us batter Palace last night. By the way, and on that subject, I thought we were slow and didn't press them nearly enough for the first 15-20 minutes, and had they scored a second goal we wouldn't be in the 5th round now. For me Duric changed the game when he came on and that wouldn't have been the case at that stage were it not for the injury to Fammy. I want the club and team to be successful and get us back to the top flight, and to also respect the owner that he knows what he's doing and has the right people to hand to accomplish it. Only time will tell what happens and whether it will ever happen.
Last seasons bad run had a lot to do with it. A lot of people left because LJ didn't, and/or because this site became an anti LJ site. I nearly quit myself due to it, however living in Oz this is my only insight to whats happening. I notice we don't do as many match day threads as previous seasons and other clubs do on the site. I appreciate that's easy for me to say as I'm not doing it and i'm sure its a lot of work.
I like the games - stopping the games is going to lead to even less posts (and if the games stop midway through then what we have done so far is a waste of time) Things are going well for the team - that means less to moan about - so less posts
To answer a few questions asked so far. It wouldn’t be much use directly messaging old users that no longer post as 95% of them haven’t been online for a very long time so wouldn’t see the message. I’d be up for inviting other clubs fans to our forum but I think in the Championship it’s us, Cardiff, Leeds, Sunderland and Norwich. All the other teams activity is non existent. I’m hearing what’s been said and I’ll remove the games from sticky, they’ll still be available to play but it’s up to the OP to bring the game to everyone’s attention weekly. They shouldn’t drop off of the first page to be honest and certainly won’t go past the 2nd so it won’t be hard to keep on top of. I’ll leave this post on sticky for a few days so others get the chance to have their say.
Sorry to butt in fellas but our forum is much the same as well - absent old posters and very few new ones are killing the buzz. shiny - you've missed a couple of signifcant well populated 606 clubs though. Hull and QPR have very active forums - you could add both Fulham and Ipswich to a lesser extent. It's a shame there isn't more rival fans posting on each others forums to stimulate chat - I do my bit over here now and again. On the "stickies" question, your forum has been a bloody mess at the top for a while - nice to see you've addressed it.
I don't think there's anything 'wrong' per se. I don't think there are a particularly large amount of users leaving, it's the usual trickle that any forum has, it's just that this is not the sort of place a new user would come to. It's more of a struggle to attract new people here than other places. That's not a criticism of the forum. It's just if you're a City fan looking for a forum to join, this won't be high up the list I'm afraid. The only reason I'm here is after getting fed up with the nonsense on OTIB. I'm not really sure how you fix it in all honesty. Maybe a bit of promo (links in signatures, etc) on OTIB perhaps?
